Mini golf fundraiser
Shaler North Hills Library’s Mini-Golf “Beat the February Blues” event is returning. The community is invited to come in from the cold and putter through an 18-hole mini-golf course sponsored by the Friends of SNHL.
Visit the Library on Presidents’ Day weekend, Feb. 19-21, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. Teens play on Feb. 19 from 7-9 p.m.
The 18 individual golf holes found in the stacks of the library and hand-crafted by community members using common household items and their own creativity have to be seen to be believed.
This popular event is fun for all ages and it benefits the Library too. The cost is only $5 per golfer ages 10 and up and $2.50 for younger pros.
Registration for a pre-scheduled tee time is required at shalerlibrary.com. Masks are also required.
Shaler North Hills Library is located at 1822 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw. For more information, contact library director Sharon McRae at mcraes@einetwork.net, or call 412-486-0211.
Burchfield Primary School awarded grant
Burchfield Primary School received an $8,000 grant through the 2020-2021 Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education Performance Grant: School Based Behavioral Health Programs: Installation of Tier 1 SWPBIS.
Burchfield Primary School’s School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team wrote the grant to enhance the school’s current SWPBIS and the continuation of positive support available to all students.
“We are so grateful for this opportunity because we truly believe in the SWPBIS process and the continuum of positive support available to all students at Burchfield Primary School,” said Lezlie DelVecchio-Marks, school counselor. “We want our students to feel supported, valued and encouraged in a positive school environment.”
The grant will allow the school to purchase new signage and floor decals to serve as visual reminders of the expectations and commitment to the program, purchase an additional Buddy Bench for the upper playground area, and create a “Burchfield Café,” which would house reward events for students.
The SWPBIS team also is looking at adding a focused curriculum for social-emotional learning.
Burchfield Primary School and its SWPBIS team also is working with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit this year to learn how to effectively provide a multi-tiered system of supports framework to Burchfield students.
With the establishment of the SWPBIS framework, the team will utilize data to guide and expand upon tiered academic and social-emotional learning interventions to coincide with the behavioral interventions and expectations.
Valentines For Seniors
Last year, the community answered the call to make local area seniors’ day brighter by creating more than 900 beautiful valentines. This year, Shaler North Hills Library is excited to do it again. Here are the guidelines:
• Make a valentine (please, no glitter!).
• Put your valentine into a plastic baggie (sandwich, quart, or gallon size baggie).
• One valentine per baggie so they can be individually delivered to our senior area residents.
• Drop off at the library between Feb. 3-8. No later than February 8, please!
We will deliver to area residents and facilities by Feb. 14.
Shaler North Hills Library is located at 1822 Mt. Royal Blvd, Glenshaw 15116 (Shaler Township). For more information on the project, contact Beth Lawry at lawryb2@einetwork.net or at 412-486-0211.
