Carson teachers receive grants
Lauren Bosetti and Patrick Niven, teachers at North Allegheny’s Carson Middle School, have been awarded with $500 Make Activities Count grants from local McDonald’s restaurants.
Bosetti will use the funds to stage a Greek festival during her Greek Literature and Mythology unit, and Niven will create a hydroponics system in his classroom to supplement a unit on alternate farming techniques.
McDonald’s recognizes that lessons often become more meaningful when demonstrated with hands-on experiences, according to the corporation. The MAC Grants program provides financial support so teachers can supplement regular classroom curriculums with activities that the school’s budget may not allow.
Club hosts bird program
“Winter Birds” will be Longvue Acres Garden Club’s first program of the new year.
Allegheny County park rangers Elise Cupps and Braden Meiter will introduce the types of native birds that call our area home during the winter.
The program will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m., after the club’s business meeting, on Jan. 23 at Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.

Trib Total Media scholarship
Trib Total Media’s Scholarship for Diversity in Media, created in 2020, is open to minorities as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Program.
Eligible applicants must be current high school seniors planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university with a major in journalism, English writing or communications. Scholarship recipients each will receive up to $30,000 in scholarship funds awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500.
The recipient also will receive a summer internship at Trib Total Media and, upon graduation, an offer for full-time employment. The students will be required to remain in the approved course of study through graduation and complete summer internships with Trib Total Media each year of the program.
