McKees Rocks shooting turns into a police chase; officers fire 3 times

Ashooting on Thursday afternoon in McKees Rocks prompted a police chase through several municipalities that ended in Robinson, according to Allegheny County Police.

Police said three officers fired at the car as the chase ensued. One of the suspects was shot and wounded, but police did not say whether he was shot by officers or someone else.

Officers arrested two men in a white Audi sedan that police after they ditched the car in the 100 block of N. Petrie Drive in Robinson and ran into a wooded area.

County said suspect Steven Bryant Jr., 28, of Pasadena, Md., who was driving, was shot in the arm. His passenger, Gaj Walker, 32, of Pittsburgh, was arrested.

Police said late Thursday that county detectives are consulting with the district attorney’s office to determine what charges will be filed.

According to a release from the county police, the incident started at about 1:45 p.m., when police from the Allegheny County Housing Authority and McKees Rocks responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Bell Avenue.

First responders found a woman suffering from shrapnel wounds to a shin, hand, and her cheek.

The unidentified woman was listed in stable condition Thursday night.

County police detectives brought in to investigate identified the suspect’s vehicle as the Audi, which had Maryland license plates. They alerted area police to look for it at about 2:30 p.m. Shortly before 3 p.m., local police spotted the car in the McKees Rocks area.

Police from McKees Rocks, Stowe and the housing authority tried to stop the car. The driver fled, however, nearly striking a police officer.

County police said two officers fired at the car at the traffic stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Several local police departments were involved.

Robinson police tried to deploy a spike strip in front of the car to flatten its tires.

The fleeing vehicle nearly struck the Robinson police officer — who fired a shot at the car.

The Audi eventually stopped in the 100 block of N. Petrie Drive in Robinson and the two suspects fled into a wooded area.

They were apprehended there a short time later. Bryant was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.
