A McKeesport teenager has been arrested and charged with a fatal shooting Sunday in the city.

Allegheny County Police charged Daemond Artemus, 17, with homicide, carrying a gun without a license and gun possession by a minor in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Dylan C. Saula of North Versailles.

Saula was found dead from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, shortly before 11 a.m. on Lysle Boulevard.

A nearby business provided external security camera footage to police that showed a red sedan whose passenger or passengers can be seen pushing a body, later identified as Saula, out of the car before turning onto Sinclair Street, according to court records.

Less than 20 minutes after the shooting was reported, a Pirl Street resident called 911 to report two juvenile males dumping what they believed was a stolen car on the 1400 block of Pirl. A police K-9 tracked a scent from the vehicle to a home on the 1300 block of Hamilton Street. There, police detained four males, who were taken to the McKeesport Police Department, according to a sworn affidavit.

A search warrant for the home turned up clothing matching that seen in the security footage, as well as a Glock .357-caliber semi-automatic pistol in the home’s basement rafters, police said.

One of two juvenile witnesses told police they were walking with Artemus on Sunday when he flagged down a passing driver from whom they’d previously bought drugs, according to court documents. The driver and Artemus got into the backseat, and the witness slid over to the driver’s side. Shortly after, the witness heard a gunshot and then Artemus demanded he drive the car away from the scene. They said they later dumped the car on Pirl Street.

Artemus denied any knowledge of the shooting during police interviews, according to a criminal complaint.

His bail was denied, and he was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. A Sept. 13 preliminary hearing is scheduled in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

An attorney for Artemus was not listed in court records.
