A Monroeville volunteer firefighter was arrested and charged last week with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl.

Ryan Costa, 26, of Monroeville is the municipality’s second volunteer firefighter in April to have been charged with inappropriate sexual contact with a minor.

Gregory Allen Lauffer, 23, of Monroeville was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors earlier this month and is scheduled to face District Judge Jeffrey Herbst in June.

The firefighters served at different stations — Lauffer at Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company No. 5 and Costa at Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 6.

Costa is alleged to have exposed himself more than 20 times to the girl, who was 10 when the incidents began. According to the complaint, Costa had dinner at the girl’s house. She told police she liked him because “he’s nice and plays hide and seek with her.”

The first time he allegedly exposed himself was in the girl’s mother’s vehicle while they were alone, according to the complaint.

During that incident, the girl told police Costa, seated in the passenger’s seat, touched himself while she sat in the driver’s seat.

The girl also said Costa showed her pornographic videos while in her mother’s car and behind the shed at Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 6, where Costa served.

She told police Costa used Snapchat to send her messages to “tell her she is pretty.” He also asked for pictures of her face, she told police.

Costa was also alleged to have tried to lure her friend to the shed to expose himself.

Costa faces four felonies and three misdemeanors, all sex-related.

The firefighter could not be reached for comment. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Corey Ramsey, chief of Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 6, did not respond to a request for comment.

Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole, who also serves as president for Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department No. 4, did not respond to a request for comment.

A non-monetary bail was set last week and his next court date is in June.
