About $400,000 in state grants will be put toward projects in Pitcairn and Wilmerding, state Rep. Brandon Markosek announced on Tuesday.

The state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund will commit $300,000 to road repairs and slope stabilization along Hillside Avenue in Pitcairn, between Broadway Boulevard and Elm Street.

An additional $100,000 from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County will go toward demolishing four single-family homes and a duplex in Pitcairn, as well as the acquisition of tax-delinquent properties in Wilmerding.

“This is substantial funding that will assist in the beautification and rehabilitation efforts currently underway in our district,” Markosek said. “This is funding that counts, funding that matters and funding that will be appreciated by the community. I look forward to the outcome once the projects are complete.”

About 280 feet of slope will be stabilized in Pitcairn, along with the reconstruction of a traffic lane and the installation of a guide rail and storm water inlet.

The project is intended to prevent further slide damage, which took place during an abnormally wet spring.

The redevelopment authority grant was one of several announced Tuesday, financed by gaming activity in Allegheny County.
