Heavy traffic expected for Monroeville park race
Heavy traffic is expected all day Saturday near a park on Tilbrook Road in Monroeville as the municipality hosts an endurance event.
Monroeville Park West will transform into a Terrain 5K Race from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The race includes three miles of obstacle courses and mud pits and is expected to attract around 6,500 people, according to a municipal news release.
The entire length of Tilbrook Road will become a “no parking” zone during the event and the police department will monitor the road, which will remain open to traffic.
Councilman Eric Poach was recently appointed as the municipality’s deputy emergency management coordinator. He will work with emergency management personnel, the police department, fire and emergency medical services, the parks and recreation department, public works and Allegheny Health Network to “manage the needs of the expected crowd.”
Based in Phoenix, Ariz., Terrain Race partners with the 1Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps children with chronic illnesses experience their “one wish.”
Parking for event will cost $20, according to the event website.
Day-of registration for the race is $40.
