Plum Area Ladies Society events
Plum Area Ladies Society (PALS) will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on March 6 at Plum Community Center.
PALS is a service and social club, open to women from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding communities. Newcomers are welcome at the monthly meetings, held on the first Wednesday of each month from September through April.
The service project for March will be to fill 40 Easter baskets with candy and small toys for children served by the Plum Food Pantry.
The speaker will be from Plum EMS, who will explain the EMS’s mission to raise funds for car seats and cribs for families in need. They will accept donations from members.
For the Ladies Day Out, the members will be attending the “55 and Over Comedy Tour” on March 9 at 8 p.m. at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont. To sign up, call Lynda at 412-298-1269 by March 1.
At the meeting, members may pay $30 for their admission to the May 4 banquet at Pugliano’s Italian Grill on Golden Mile Highway. The theme is the Kentucky Derby.

Car show benefit set for April
The Steel City Chapter of the Heavy Hitters Car Club will host an April 21 car show at the Boyce Park Wave Pool.
It will be from noon to 5 p.m. at 740 Old Frankstown Road in Plum, with special guest host and former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Louis Lipps.
The entry fee is $10 and the event will include food, music, a 50/50 raffle and basket raffles along with awards in seven categories.
Proceeds will benefit Tiny Cause, a nonprofit dog rescue shelter in Vandergrift. For more, see SCheavyhitters.com.
Group to feature pandemic speaker
The International Women group will welcome Dr. Thomas Soltis at its March 1 meeting to discuss the similarities between the 1918 influenza and 2020 covid-19 pandemics. The presentation will include a Q&A session.
It will be at 9:30 a.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. All women in the community are invited to attend.
Light bulb sales support police
Monroeville officials are selling blue light bulbs and proceeds will benefit the Monroeville Police Benevolent Fund.
The Blue Light Project will offer the bulbs for $10 at the Monroeville Parks and Recreation Department at 2700 Monroeville Boulevard. Community members can also purchase and install their own blue 9-watt LED bulb to show support for the police.

Kindergarten registration open
Gateway School District officials announced that kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year is open.
Parents can go to Gatewayk12.org/ resources/parent-resources/registration to complete an online enrollment form. Kindergarten screenings will take place in May.
