Monroeville designated as a 2021 Banner Community
Monroeville joined more than 70 other entities within Allegheny County when it was named recently as a Banner Community.
Allegheny County announced March 8 that 68 municipalities and five municipal authorities earned the distinction for their “commitment to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders,” a release from Allegheny County said.
The program, in its ninth year, is sponsored by the county and the Allegheny League of Municipalities.
Other communities that received the recognition this year include Aspinwall, Jefferson Hills, Tarentum, Scott, Verona and others.
Mayor Nick Gresock said he is proud of everyone that helped the municipality earn the designation.
“Our elected officials, (Municipal Manager) Tim Little, the department heads and all of our employees,” Gresock said. “To be recognized for providing municipal services at a high level under the circumstances of the previous year is a great accomplishment.”
Little was grateful for the designation.
“Our staff and elected officials work hard every day to assist our residents and businesses by providing the services they rely on each day. We are very proud of our municipality’s commitment and are excited to receive this designation again for 2021,” he said.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said the county’s communities have been stressed during the pandemic.
“Yet throughout these challenges, these municipalities continue to serve the residents of their community in ways that set them apart,” Fitzgerald said in a news release. “Congratulations to all of the recipients of the Banner Community designation. We are grateful to you for your continued efforts on behalf of your residents and businesses and are fortunate to have you as part of our county.”
Monroeville is a member of ALOM, which is a nonprofit that launched in the 1960s and now works to educate elected officials, deliver essential resources to them and advocates for sound policy and legislation, Little said.
