News briefs: Drug Take Back Day scheduled near Monroeville; leaf collection set
The Wilkins Elks Lodge will host a Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 24 at its location at 718 Beulah Road in Turtle Creek.
People will be able to dispose of old prescription medication in a Drug Enforcement Agency approved Take Back Box.
Pills do not need to be removed from bottles, and labels do not need to be stripped off. Wilkins Police Department will transport all collected drugs to the DEA for proper disposal.
Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be followed, and wearing a face covering is required when entering the building.
Leaf collection
Monroeville’s leaf removal service will pick up leaves that are bagged and left at the curb through Dec. 4. Paper leaf bags can be placed at the curb the same day as trash service — a separate truck will come around to pick them up.
Leaf bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the front desk of the Municipal Building at 2700 Monroeville Blvd. The cost is $3 for five bags.
Citizens’ Night
Monroeville Council’s worksessions, also known as “citizens’ night,” have been canceled until further notice. The sessions typically were held separately from council meetings. Moving forward, the worksession will be held immediately before a scheduled council meeting. Those meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.
