Police charge Pitcairn man with rape of 11-year-old girl
Allegheny County Police have charged a 29-year-old Pitcairn man in connection with the rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Joshua Davon Austin-Pollard faces multiple felonies, including rape and sexual assault.
Police say the events took place at Austin-Pollard’s Third Street home three days after Christmas. The charges also include interference with custody of children, corruption of minors and aggravated indecent assault.
A preliminary hearing for Austin-Pollard was held at Monroeville’s district court March 1, where Judge Jeffrey Herbst dropped a charge of dissemination of explicit sexual material to a minor, said Sgt. Matt Mineard of Allegheny County Police Department’s general investigations unit.
Police did not identify the victim, and the Tribune-Review does not identify victims of sexual crimes.
The criminal complaint said the 11-year-old girl’s friend, a minor female teenager, persuaded the girl to sneak out of her house; the complaint does not identify the girl’s neighborhood.
In the complaint, the girl referred to Austin-Pollard as her friend’s “uncle,” though his relationship to the teenager is unclear. County police declined to comment on the relationship.
Police said Austin-Pollard ordered a ride from Lyft to take the 11-year-old girl to a T station in Downtown Pittsburgh, where they were met by Austin-Pollard, the teenage friend and an unknown woman.
The woman drove the three to a gas station “to get snacks” and then dropped the three off at Austin-Pollard’s home on the 300 block of Third Street, police said.
At one point during the night, the teen went into the shower. The 11-year-old girl at that point used the restroom. When she got out, she told police that Austin-Pollard made her feel uncomfortable by the way he was looking at her.
He made sexual advances on her and then raped her, the criminal complaint said. He only stopped when the teenage friend yelled out for Austin-Pollard to bring her a towel after showering.
Police said in the criminal complaint that he then told the 11-year-old girl “not to say anything to” her friend.
The complaint said when the teenager got out of the shower, Austin-Pollard took the girls to his bedroom and showed them videos of “him having sex with various females.”
Police said the 11-year-old girl told them that on the next morning, she and the teenager were able to get a ride to another location in McKeesport. McKeesport police were notified.
Police said the 11-year-old girl was forensically interviewed at UPMC Children’s Hospital in its Child Advocacy Center on Dec. 29, one day after the alleged assault.
Austin-Pollard remains in Allegheny County Jail on a $75,000 bail. Court records show he is being represented by George Lawrence Saba, a public defender.
Saba declined to comment.
Court records show Austin-Pollard has a hearing scheduled in April in front of an Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas judge.
