Here is a short video that captures the biggest headlines in Monroeville for the days spanning Sept. 13-18.
• Craig Cozza said he’s stoked for the future of a building in Monroeville that has sat vacant for a couple of years and has been tied up in bankruptcy court since last year.
He plans to turn the former Racquet Club into an indoor sports complex, complete with a restaurant, bar and various fields and courts for different sports.
• The Monroeville Senior Citizen Center plans to reopen Oct. 5 with changed hours and under restrictions.
If all goes as planned, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is the center’s first of three phases for reopening. It hopes to enter into a second phase, with expanded hours, in November.
• Gateway’s school board responded to Monroeville’s comments about the district’s lawsuit over stormwater fees.
“The attack on the tax payers and the religious institutions in this community are coming from the council and the council alone and they are now trying to use the district as the scapegoat for this poorly planned and illegally written ordinance,” said Mary Beth Cirucci before the school board’s meeting began.
• The Monroeville Chabad Jewish Center handed out 1,100 masks in two hours Sept. 13.
The center still has additional masks, which can be scheduled for a pickup by calling 412-372-1000.
