Here’s a look at the news as it happened in Monroeville over the past week.

• Covid-19 cases are on a slow rise in Allegheny County, including Monroeville and Pitcairn. In Monroeville, there have been 1,922 total cases and 59 deaths since March. Pitcairn has had 110 cases and four deaths during the same span of time.

• Meanwhile, in the Gateway School District, the high school and Evergreen Elementary school are extending remote learning through Jan. 26 because of exposures to covid-19. The rest of the district returned to a hybrid learning model Jan. 19.

• The Gateway School Board has vowed to pursue diversity training after Paul Caliari’s resignation over an alleged racially charged text.

• The Gateway Middle School renovation project continues to inch along. The board hired a construction management firm for $869,000. Officials have said construction could begin in May, but much work is ahead before that can happen.
