3 escape massive house fire in Fayette County

A huge fire broke out Friday morning at a Dunbar Township home in Fayette County.

The fire was reported around 3:20 a.m. at the 200 block of Locust Street, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Three people escaped the flames, WTAE reported, but the house is a total loss.

Nearby resident Justin Teets told WTAE that he has known the family for a while and that the parents and their son live in the house.

He said the son smelled smoke, ran outside and returned to the house, while the parents escaped out a window.

“It was crazy,” Teets said. “You couldn’t even — you couldn’t see any bit of the house. The flames just completely engulfed everything.”

There were no injuries reported.


Teen injured in Clairton shooting

A teenager was injured Thursday in a shooting in Clairton, according to Allegheny County Police.

County 911 was notified of a shooting in the 300 block of Shaw Avenue at 9:40 p.m. Thursday.

First responders found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the hip. He was taken to the hospital, officials said.

County detectives are investigating.

Landslide causes road closure in West Homestead

A landslide closed a section of Route 837 in West Homestead on Thursday evening.

The landslide occurred between West 7th Avenue and the Glenwood Bridge, according to TribLive news partner WTAE. Police helped direct traffic in the area.

Officials did not immediately provide an estimate on when the road could reopen.


Movie filming in Ross Township

A movie is scheduled to film Friday in the area of Babcock Boulevard in Ross Township near Shaler.

Ross police said residents in the area may hear simulated gunfire or see pyrotechnics in the area.


Water restored to Wilkins residents after 2nd outage

Residents in Wilkins Township who were impacted by a second water main break Thursday have had their water service restored.

Wilkins Township’s volunteer fire company said water was restored Thursday evening.

Residents had been without water since Wednesday after a water main break along Lower Rodi Road near the intersection with Larimer and Thompson Run.

There also had been a water main break on Rodi Road Sunday, leaving residents in the same area without water twice in less than a week.


Pittsburgh Regional Transit closing 2 park and ride spots

Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced Thursday two of its park and ride locations will close permanently.

The North Versailles and Olympia Park sites will close Feb. 18.

PRT suggested an alternative site at the Forest Hills Park and Ride at Ardmore Boulevard for those who use the North Versailles location. The authority recommended alternate parking at the McKeesport Transit Center Park and Ride on Lysle Boulevard for people who use the Olympia Park site.

PRT also announced that service from the South Hills to Downtown Pittsburgh and the North Shore will be disrupted this weekend.

Inbound service from the South Hills will end at Penn Station, and Wood Street Station will be closed, PRT officials said. Outbound service from the North Shore into Downtown Pittsburgh and the South Hills will end at Gateway Station, and a free bus shuttle will run between Gateway and Penn Station.

Officials encouraged people to allow extra time if traveling by rail during the disruptions, which are expected to last from 8 p.m. Friday through Monday morning.
