Here are some news items for Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025:

No injuries reported in Etna fire

Multiple fire companies quickly knocked down a fire reported late Wednesday night in the wall of an Etna home.

Fire crews were called to the unit block of Ann Street just after 10 p.m. They located a fire in the exterior wall, opening it up and knocking it down.

Crews remained on scene as the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office began its investigation.

Glassport man charged in fatal shooting

A Glassport man has been charged in the fatal shooting another man in a McKeesport bar late Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the Tube City Cafe on Fifth Avenue shortly before noon, where they found Darnell Ross inside the bar. Ross had been shot and was transported to UPMC McKeesport, where he was pronounced dead.

Police used interviews and camera footage to determine that another man, identified by witnesses as Floyd Noell, 39, of Glassport came into the bar and got into an argument with Ross before the two started fighting over a gun Noell was observed with in surveillance footage, according to a sworn affidavit.

Police said during the struggle, Noell fired twice and Ross fell to the ground. Noell left Tube City Cafe and fled the scene in a black Chevy Tahoe toward Evans Avenue, police said.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., McKeesport Police received a notification of a plate reader hit for the Tahoe, and found it parked on the 1700 block of Evans Avenue with Noell inside. He was detained and taken to Allegheny County Police headquarters, where he was later charged with criminal homicide, carrying an unlicensed weapon, tampering with evidence and related charges.

He was denied bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. A March 14 preliminary hearing is set in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

Garfield shooting victims identified

A Pittsburgh man and woman have been identified as the victims in a Feb. 20 shooting in the city’s Garfield neighborhood.

Emergency officials initially responded to a report of a crash on the evening of Feb. 20, but arrived to find two people with fatal gunshot wounds to the back of the head. They have been identified as Dameon Hill, 35, of Garfield and Taquaila L. Daniels, 24, of the city’s Crawford-Roberts neighborhood.

A male toddler, believed to be about 2 years old, was found unharmed in the backseat of the car.

Police are investigating.
