Pitt police investigate air soft gun incidents in Oakland
University of Pittsburgh police said Friday they’re searching for two men they say assaulted people with an air soft gun in Oakland.
Pitt spokesperson Jared Stonesifer addresses the incident in a statement: “Charges are being pursued against a non-affiliated subject in relation to the first incident on (Wednesday). The University of Pittsburgh Police Department, in partnership with City of Pittsburgh police and Carnegie Mellon University Police, are actively investigating last night’s incident.
“Both incidents were random acts and specific individuals were not targeted at any time.”
Police said the reported incidents occurred around 1 a.m. in the area of the 120 block of Ruskin Avenue, Forbes Avenue, Meyran Avenue and the 4700 block of Fifth Avenue.
The attacks were carried out by two individuals wearing ski masks in a red Toyota Solara. Police said the front passenger used a black-and-orange air soft gun to carry out the assaults.
The vehicle’s license plate is LYX 3993.
There were no serious injuries reported in Thursday’s incidents. Police said the alleged assaults are unrelated to Wednesday night’s incident, which involved shots fired from a pellet gun.
1 injured in 2-vehicle crash in North Versailles
One person was sent to the hospital after a crash Thursday around 10 p.m. at East Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard and Westinghouse Avenue, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.
Allegheny County Police worked the crash scene that included a red Dodge Challenger and an SUV, both heavily damaged.
Police said the cause of the crash is still unknown.
No further updates were made available.
Rain returns Friday; weekend forecast
Say goodbye to the pleasant fall weather in the region.
A cold front is moving in from the west and will bring up to an inch of rain by Saturday evening, according to Pittsburgh National Weather Service meteorologist Lee Hendricks.
“Unfortunately, it’s going to be a rather soggy Friday here,” Hendricks said.
Temperatures will begin falling around 1 p.m. from a high of 65 degrees to 50 by 5 p.m.

The rain will continue overnight and dry out Saturday, with decreasing temperatures.
Saturday’s high temperature is expected to hover in the mid 40s and drop to a low in the 30s overnight.
Sunday will bring sunshine and a high of about 50 degrees.
Normal daytime highs for this time of year is 51 degrees.
