Police say Facebook post led to armed robbery in Mt. Oliver

A teenager was arrested Monday afternoon after Allegheny County Police said he and others were involved in an armed robbery during a Facebook Marketplace transaction.

Mt. Oliver Police requested the assistance of Allegheny County Police around 1 p.m. Monday for a reported armed robbery in the 700 block of Hays Avenue in the borough, police said.

Police said detectives learned someone had traveled to the area to sell a custom-built PC in a deal initiated on Facebook Marketplace. Three males then arrived at the location, displayed a firearm, and forcibly stole the computer before fleeing the area, police said.

County police said responding detectives noticed multiple people who matched the description of the suspects exiting a nearby residence. When approaching the suspects, a foot chase ensued.

A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody. Police said the teen displayed the firearm during the robbery.

He is being charged as an adult and is facing multiple charges including robbery and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor, police said.

Allegheny County Police said they are still seeking to identify three additional suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS (255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
