Teen shot in leg in East Hills
Pittsburgh police are investigating after a 16-year-old was shot early Sunday morning in East Hills.
Police were called to the 2300 block of Wilner Drive around 2:45 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert for seven gunshots fired.
They arrived to find a teenage male with a gunshot wound to the left. He was taken by Pittsburgh EMS to the hospital in stable condition.
Police said witnesses described a possible fight involving the victim prior to the shooting.
Sheraden man arrested following high-speed chase
A Pittsburgh man faces a host of traffic violations along with charges of aggravated assault and strangulation, after city police said he attacked a woman and later led them on a high-speed chase Saturday.
Police were initially called to a home on Kearsarge Street in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood just after 9 p.m. Saturday night. They encountered a female victim who was undressed and bleeding badly from her nose. Police also saw dark red marks on both sides of her neck.
The woman told police her boyfriend, Marc Smith Jr., 35, of Sheraden had assaulted her and ripped her clothing before leaving, according to court records.
A neighbor told police he saw Smith throw the woman down a set of front steps.
Around 11 p.m., a license plate reader at Library Road and Route 51 recorded Smith’s license plate headed inbound. Backup officers pursued Smith’s vehicle, and after a high-speed chase, he was taken into custody and transported to UPMC Presbyterian for evaluation.
Smith Jr. is charged with aggravated assault, strangulation, felony flight to avoid apprehension, felony flight from police, drug possession and more than a dozen related traffic charges.
He was denied bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
A Nov. 19 preliminary hearing is set in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
