Gunshot fired at Brookline Recreation Center

A gunshot was fired during a fight outside Brookline Recreation Center on Monday evening, public safety officials said.

Public safety officials said a preliminary investigation showed a fight had broken out outside the center, during which a man pulled out a gun and fired one round around 7:30 p.m.

There were no reported injuries.

Eliza Durham, a public safety spokeswoman, said a suspect was identified but no one was in custody as of early Tuesday afternoon.

City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith, D-West End, said several people — including kids — were in the area at the time.

Kail-Smith said a fistfight between a teenager and an adult ended with the gunshot and kids leaving the baseball field traumatized.

She called for more training for people who use the city’s athletic fields.

The investigation is ongoing.
