A Sept. 19 pop-up glass recycling event is set for Murrysville’s Veterans Field parking lot.

Murrysville officials will partner with Republic Services to host a Sept. 19 glass recycling “pop-up” event at Veterans Field, 4170 Sardis Road.

The collection will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and accepted types of glass include all colors of bottles, jars and jugs. Caps, lids and labels are acceptable, and all containers must be empty.

The following will not be accepted: window glass, drinking glasses and stemware, dishware, ceramics, mirrors, light bulbs and TVs.

Recreation Dept. adds ‘Tuesdays at Townsend’ concert dates

The Murrysville Recreation Department has added three additional dates to its “Tuesdays at Townsend” outdoor concert series.

The concerts are from 6:30-8 p.m. at the park, on Townsend Park Court, and the evening will also include regional food trucks. Additional dates include:

• Aug. 4: Jason Kendall and John Parrendo

• Aug. 11: Hoffman Road Band

• Aug. 12: Sweaty Already String Band (bluegrass)

Guests can bring a lawn chair or blanket, and are reminded to observe social distancing. Coolers are not permitted.

Delmont library to host model-rocket build

The Delmont Public Library will host an afternoon of model rocket building at Shields Farm on Aug. 8.

The cost is $10 per rocket. Participants will learn how to build, and launch, their own rocket.

The program is for children ages 8 and older. Registration is required by calling 724-568-5329.

Military Connections sets sewing day for 2020 stocking donations

Penn Hills nonprofit Military Connections has set an Aug. 20 sewing day to create the stockings its members send each year to troops stationed overseas.

The sewing day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Murrysville Alliance Church, 4130 William Penn Highway.

The group is also continuing to accept donations for the stockings, of items like granola bars, chocolate and Christmas candy, mints, gum, individual bags of snacks like cookies and crackers, hot chocolate packets and energy bars.

Monetary donations can also be sent to Military Connections, 312 Auburn St., Pittsburgh, Pa., 15235.
