Franklin Regional senior McCain Varley was one of three students recognized with the 2019 Good Citizen of the Year Award from the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Queen Alliquippa Chapter, which dates back to 1911, recognized Varley along with Norwin senior Victoria Saunders and Elizabeth Forward senior Nancy Beinlich.

Each student was selected by his or her respective high school based upon grade point average and submission of a timed essay on the topic, “What new challenges will America face as we move forward into the future?”

Beinlich plans to attend the College of William and Mary in Virginia to study biochemistry. Varley plans to attend the University of Rochester in New York to study biomedical engineering. Saunders plans to attend Ohio State University in Ohio to study biology.

Each student received a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card.

Beinlich was the chapter’s overall essay winner, and will advance to the state level.
