Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar tries to drop Mayor Alyce Urban into the dunking booth at Delmont Daze on Aug. 3, 2024.

In addition to $66,000 in state and county grant funding, the Delmont Police Department got a small boost for its K-9 program through the dunk tank at this year’s Delmont Daze festival.

Dave and Jesse Wien, owners of John’s Barbershop in Delmont, sponsored the dunk tank at the Aug. 3 festival, raising $1,000 for the fund.

Anyone interested in contributing to the fund can call the borough office at 724-468-4422 or stop by during business hours, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, at 77 Greensburg Street.

Police Chief T.J. Klobucar announced in May that the grant funding would allow the department to reestablish its K-9 program, absent for almost 25 years.

Officer Dylan Keffer is the handler for K-9 Dirk, a Belgian Malinois that has undergone narcotics detection training and is completing search-and-rescue training. Klobucar said he expects the dog will be ready for patrol duty in the fall.
