Eleven FR junior wrestlers qualify for state tournament spots
Eleven members of the Franklin Regional J.O. Wrestling program have qualified to compete in the Pennsylvania State Championship Wrestling Tournament.
On Feb. 17, Franklin Regional hosted the Area 3 state qualifier tournament with youth wrestlers from 19 school districts competing for spots in the state championship tournament. That championship is set for March 16 and 17 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center.
Eighteen members of the FR team earned top-four finishes in their respective age groups, divisions and weight classes. Eight earned first-place finishes and three earned second-place titles, guaranteeing them spots in the state championship tournament.
Coach Michael Ruane couldn’t be happier.
“Placing 18 wrestlers in an area tournament and sending 11 to the state championship is an extraordinary accomplishment for our program and a testament to the quality coaches and parents who run it,” he said.
