Export awards contract for failing retaining wall on McKinley Avenue

Export officials hope that work to stabilize a retaining wall on McKinley Avenue will begin in July.

Borough council voted 6-0 to award the $107,000 contract for the wall to Delmont-based Danmar.

A walk up McKinley Avenue quickly reveals buckled pavement and a visible bend in the curbing along the wall, and snow fencing was erected in areas where the chain-link fence has bent or broken.

Funding for the wall will come through CDBG, or the federal Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered locally through Westmoreland County.

Meanwhile, Calisti Drive — which was originally slated for paving using CDBG funds — will be paved as part of Murrysville’s 2019 street program. Export officials will pay the $13,500 cost out of the borough’s liquid fuel funding allotment.
