Export officials will vote next month on a 2020 budget that holds the line on taxes at 14 mills.
Borough council voted Monday night to advertise the $659,000 budget, which has a projected surplus of more than $10,000.
Council has not raised taxes for more than a decade, and its last tax-related move was to lower taxes about a decade ago, from 16 to 14 mills. A mill raises about $4,700 in Export, according to Mayor Joe Zaccagnini, who asked council to consider adjusting some salaries.
“From 2016 to today, we haven’t had an increase for the borough secretary or our solicitor,” Zaccagnini said.
Councilman Joe Ferri’s fiscal eye was cast in the direction of consent agreements the borough recently entered into with the state’s Department of Environmental Protection regarding sewage and stormwater fixes.
“We have all this sewage stuff looming,” Ferri said.
Solicitor Wes Long said the borough has some time before council needs to decide how to fund a number of improvements to sewage and stormwater control.
“I don’t think you need to do anything with taxes just yet,” Long said. “But the sewage requirements are going to be expensive, no question.”
Council will take a formal vote on the 2020 budget next month.
