Franklin Regional elementary students ready for the holidays

Regan Fusting, a member of the FR vs. Cancer Club, helps decorate the Forbes Cancer Institute in Monroeville. Club members also donated gifts and comfort items for patients at the center.

Using a model called “Sensory Fiction” from researchers at MIT’s Media Lab, fifth-grade students can learn to connect more deeply to the “mood” of a story through the engagement of all of their senses. Leo Hinch works with teacher Alexis Peiffer.

Students at FR Intermediate School’s Media Center explored two styles of programming, block coding, and color coding, of Ozobot robots. They were working specifically with color coding to set the speed, direction, timing, as well as program interesting motions for their bot. Kindergarten students in Katie Proviano’s class at FR Primary School had an “eggs”-tra fun day being immersed in the beloved nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty,” and learning to conduct team experiments. From the left, Cameron Keough, Alice Behanna, and Adriana Yezovich built a strong wall with wooden play blocks and used cotton fluff to protect their favorite nursery rhyme character.

Fifth grade students at Franklin Regional Intermediate School are learning about entrepreneurship. Natalie Tedesco, an FR graduate, visited them to talk about the personal skill set and leadership qualities needed to start and run a successful business. As a former Army staff sergeant and the owner of Tedesco Body Shop in Murrysville, Tedesco discussed integrity, bravery, discipline, personal responsibility, selflessness, resilience, and time management with students. She also put them through some exercises.
