Arianne Bright and Amanda Aukeman endure the cold end of the hose as the Franklin Regional Unified Team celebrated raising $2,600 for Special Olympics. In lieu of the large-group Polar Plunge that typically takes place at Heinz Field, local districts organized their own events, including the "Cool School Plunge," held Feb. 26, 2021, at FR.

After raising more than $6,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania, members of the Franklin Regional Unified Club were ready to celebrate.

Typically, that celebration takes the form of the annual Polar Plunge held at Heinz Field and pitting kids and adults alike against the shattering cold of Western Pennsylvania water in February.

With covid-19 precautions in place, however, the larger celebration was localized this year, and FR students and staff organized the “Cool School Plunge,” using a large Rubbermaid tub to do a little bit of mini-plunging, with the hose turned on for good measure.
