Mother of Sorrows Youth Ministry marks 25 years of 'Living Stations of the Cross'

Mother of Sorrows Youth Ministry in Murrysville will present its 25th annual Living Stations of the Cross on April 5 and 6. A cast of more than 20 students will portray vignettes of Jesus’ passion and death, while leading those gathered in meditation and prayer.

Catholic churches typically display a series of plaques or paintings that depict the stations, or scenes, leading up to Christ’s death. In the Living Stations of the Cross, the scenes are acted out, affording both the actors and those assembled a more vivid experience.

This year, the MOS youth will use a new set of meditations, known as “Stations of the Cross for our Times.”

“Our hope is that these Stations of the Cross will help our parish community reflect on many of the issues that challenge and concern us at this time in our lives,” youth minister Caitlin Craig said.

A free-will offering will be collected for Beverly’s Birthdays, which provides birthday cheer to children experiencing homelessness or poverty.

The Living Stations of the Cross will be presented at 7 p.m. April 5 at Mother of Sorrows Church, 4202 Old William Penn Highway. On April 6, a 5 p.m. Mass will be followed by a 6 p.m. catered dinner, with the Living Stations at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. There is no cost for admission, but an RSVP for Saturday’s dinner is requested by emailing Caitlin Craig at ccraig@dioceseofgreensburg.org.
