Christian Art Show set for Oct. 22-23
The 46th annual Christian Art Show will take place Oct. 22-23 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Murrysville.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22, and 12-4 p.m. Oct. 23. Lunch will be available, and a bake sale fundraiser will be held.

Cyclo-cross race set for Friday
The Delmont Visionary Committee will host an Oct. 15 cyclo-cross race.
The Delmont CX will take place at 9 a.m. featuring a course that runs the wooded trails, grass runs, steep hills and obstacles at Shields Farm. Racers of all ages and abilities are welcome.
There will be prizes, food and beer available. The entry fee is $45 in men’s and women’s categories, and $25 in the junior division. Proceeds will benefit the committee, which wants to make the borough more bike-friendly, and create a spur from the future Westmoreland Heritage Trail into downtown Delmont.
There is no cost to attend and watch the race.

Murrysville schedules leaf and yard-waste pickups
Murrysville and municipal hauler Republic Services announced dates for leaf and yard-waste pickup this fall: Oct. 15, Nov. 12 and Dec. 3, all Saturdays. To schedule a pickup, fill out the Curbside Leaf Collection Program form available at Murrysville.com.
There is a 20-bag limit. The sign-up deadline is the Thursday prior to the pickup date. Leaves must be in biodegradable leaf bags. Packages of five bags can be purchased at local hardware and home improvement stores.
Do not place grass clippings, trash, recycling materials or any other refuse in the bags. Small twigs and brush cannot exceed 3 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length.

Pink ribbon campaign at Panera
Panera locations in Greensburg, Monroeville, Murrysville, North Huntingdon and more will participate in the company’s Pink Ribbon Bagel fundraising campaign during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A portion of proceeds from each pink ribbon bagel will go to the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation and Cancer Bridges. The campaign raised more than $47,000 in 2021.

Collection for used book sale
The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual book sale Nov. 10-12, and is accepting book donations at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.
Donations can be fiction, nonfiction and children’s books, as well as complete jigsaw puzzles and video games. Encyclopedias, manuals, textbooks and musty/moldy books will not be accepted.
The group is also seeking volunteers to help with the annual sale.

Women’s Business Network meetings
The Women’s Business Network’s Murrysville chapter will meet on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, 8:15 a.m. at Dick’s Diner, 4100 William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
This month’s meetings will be Oct. 13 and 27. The group’s virtual meetings are held via Zoom on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7 p.m.

AARP seeks volunteers for tax program
The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to train for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest volunteer-based tax preparation service.
The group is looking for volunteers to help support tax preparation activities in Murrysville, Delmont, Penn Township, Trafford and North Huntingdon. Open positions include tax return preparer, client facilitator and appointment scheduler.

Association of University People meeting
The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates age 50 and over invites potential new members to join them for monthly dinners, gatherings and more.
The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Atria’s, 4869 William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
The association will also host a Thanksgiving Day dinner with a multi-room buffet at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.

AAUW speaker will explore artificial intelligence
The Murrysville chapter of the American Association of University Women will welcome guest speaker and Carnegie Mellon Professor Emeritus of computer science James Morris to its Oct. 13 meeting.
Morris, a Pittsburgh native with a six-decade career in computer science, is the author of “Thoughts of a Reformed Computer Scientists on the Nature of Real and Artificial Intelligence.” He will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of AI, how it began and what it can do.

‘Boomers & Beyond’ speaker focuses on rotator cuff
The featured speaker at the Oct. 11 “Boomers & Beyond” sessions at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville will be Michael Wong of PT Family Medicine in Penn Township.
Wong, who has a doctorate in osteopathy from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, is a board-certified specialist in sports medicine with a practice dealing in non-operative orthopedic care.
Wong will discuss rotator cuff and shoulder questions at the session, which will be at noon in the Mother of Sorrows Social Hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch. Beverages will be provided.
