Charity golf tournament to benefit UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Dedicated Nursing Associates eighth annual Charity Golf Classic is set for June 16 at Meadowink golf course in Murrysville, with proceeds benefiting the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The tournament will have two flights, with registration starting at 6:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. (shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.). Both will conclude with a buffet meal and the day includes hole-in-one contests, putting contests, awards for longest drive and closest to the pin, basket raffles, 50/50 drawing, live music and more.

Individual tickets are $155, and $600 for a group of four. Sponsorship packages range up to $10,000.

Fish fry to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Members of Franklin Regional’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Student Visionaries Team will host a fundraiser during the March 24 fish-fry at the Italian American Club in Export.

It will be from 4-9 p.m. at the club, 5930 Kennedy Avenue in Export, and will include a 50/50 raffle (five tickets for $5), $1 cookies and $2 cupcakes. Entry to the club is free to non-members.

Spring craft fair organizers seek vendors

Organizers for the May 6 spring craft fair at the Murrysville Community Library are seeking vendors.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library, 4130 Sardis Road. Vendor spaces with a maximum table length of eight feet are $30. Applications are available online at MurrysvilleLibrary.org and will be accepted through April 15.

Author talk at Murrysville library

Jill Cullen, author of “Flirting with a New Life,” will host a presentation about her new novel at 11 a.m. March 25 at the Murrysville Community Library.

The novel is about a newly single mother and fiction writer who is suffering from writer’s block. As the deadline for her new project looms, she finds herself procrastinating in a variety of quirky ways and situations.

Cullen is a Monroeville resident, and a graduate of Point Park University and the University of Pittsburgh.

FR kindergarten registration open

Registration is open for Franklin Regional families with children entering kindergarten in the 2023-24 school year. It is open until March 31. Visit FRSDk12.org and click on “Enroll Your Child” to register online.

Leaf collection dates in Murrysville

Republic Services is accepting sign-ups for spring curbside leaf collection on April 15 and 29.

To schedule a pick-up, fill out the form at Murrysville.com by choosing “Forms, Permits & Maps” under the “About Us” menu.

There is a 20-bag limit, and the deadline to sign up is the Thursday prior to each collection date.

Library speaker will discuss paranormal occurrences in western Pa.

The Delmont Public Library will host featured speaker Stan Gordon for a talk on reports of UFOs and Bigfoot in western Pennsylvania on March 29.

Gordon will discuss his studies of paranormal incidents, as well as Bigfoot and UFO cases, including his research of the alleged 1965 crash landing of a UFO near Kecksburg.

Gordon began his research of strange phenomena in 1959, at age 10, and expanded into field investigations after the Kecksburg incident, and has been taking calls from the public and investigating unusual encounters since 1969.

The talk will be at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 75 School Street in Delmont.

Murrysville Woman’s Club accepting scholarship applications

The Murrysville Woman’s Club is currently taking applications for a minimum of three Marielle Bartolomucci Memorial Scholarships, valued at $3,000 each.

For the past 40 years the club has awarded scholarships to Westmoreland County women at least 21 years old, who about enrolled or accepted at a college of other institution of higher education.

Boxing returns with ‘Murrysville Madness IV’

A night of boxing matches will return to the Murrysville SportZone Arena on March 25.

“Murrysville Madness IV” will feature Mike Conway fighting for the ABA Lightweight title as well as local fighters Eric Lomax, Tyler Ainscough, Andre Donovan, Mary Casamassa, Colleen Davis and Paul Palombo.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first bell will ring at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for stadium seating, $50 for floor seating and $100 for ringside seating. Tables of eight are available for $800.

The SportZone Arena is at 4491 School Road South in Murrysville.

The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates will host the following dinners in March:

• March 10, 4:30 p.m. at Bonefish Grill, 1835 Washington Road in Upper St. Clair

• March 22, 11:30 a.m. at First Watch, 100 Sierra Drive in Upper St. Clair

• March 30, 5:30 p.m. at Atria’s, 110 Beverly Road in Mt. Lebanon.

Garden club to host speaker series

The Murrysville Garden Club will host a series of speakers this spring throughout the municipality. Programs will include:

• March 23: “Wool Dying and Spinning,” presented by Millie Sass at the Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road.

• April 27: “Herb Growing and Harvesting,” presented by Ellen Marsilli at the First United Methodist Church, 3916 Old William Penn Highway.

• May 25: “Westmoreland Conservation District,” presented by Jen Novak at the Murrysville library.

All programs will start at 10:30 a.m., and are open to the public.

Woman’s club to host annual fashion show

The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host its annual Spring Fashion Show at 10 a.m. March 25 at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Salem.

A breakfast brunch will be followed by the show, featuring Fashions by Marge Predmore. Club members will be hosting a basket raffle. All proceeds will go toward the club’s community projects.

Pi(e) Day bake sale at Delmont library

Delmont Public Library officials will host a March 18 pie sale to celebrate National Pi Day.

It will be from 10-11:30 a.m. in the library at 75 School Street. Pies and other baked goods will be for sale to benefit the library and its programs.
