Local egg hunts
• The Delmont Recreation Committee will host an April 8 egg hunt for children in three different age groups at Newhouse Park.
There will be a craft for children at 11:30 a.m., with the hunt starting at noon for children under 3, ages 4-6 and ages 7-10.
Representatives from the Delmont Public Library, Salvation Army Canteen and Delmont Christmas Pilgrimage will be on hand, along with the Easter Bunny.
The park is off Stotler Drive.
• Murrysville First United Methodist Church will host an April 1 egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon at the church, 3916 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
Leaf, yard waste collection dates in Murrysville
Republic Services is accepting sign-ups for spring curbside leaf collection on April 15 and 29.
To schedule a pick-up, fill out the form at Murrysville.com by choosing “Forms, Permits & Maps” under the “About Us” menu.
There is a 20-bag limit, and the deadline to sign up is the Thursday prior to each collection date.
Easter drive-thru in Murrysville
The Murrysville Recreation Department and Murrysville Community Library will host an Easter drive-thru event from 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 5 at the municipal complex.
No pre-registration is needed to attend. Children can see the Easter bunny and Yellow Peep and pick up a free treat bag while supplies last.

Girls’ computer camp set for June
Franklin Regional officials will host the “Girls Own Awesome Technology,” or G.O.A.T. camp for girls in grades 6-9 interested in computer science and coding.
Participants can learn Java, Scratch, JavaScript, Python and cybersecurity concepts and explore a career in computer science. It will be June 5-9 with sessions running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Franklin Regional Senior High School (Room 227), 3200 School Road in Murrysville.

Chili cook-off in Delmont
The Delmont Recreation Committee will host an April 16 chili cook-off at Newhouse Park.
It will be at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion, off Stotler Road in Delmont. The cost is a $10 donation per person. Everyone in attendance will vote for their favorite, with prizes for the top three finishers.

Charity golf tournament to benefit UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation
The Dedicated Nursing Associates eighth annual Charity Golf Classic is set for June 16 at Meadowink golf course in Murrysville, with proceeds benefiting the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The tournament will have two flights, with registration starting at 6:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. (shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.). Both will conclude with a buffet meal and the day includes hole-in-one contests, putting contests, awards for longest drive and closest to the pin, basket raffles, 50/50 drawing, live music and more.
Individual tickets are $155, and $600 for a group of four. Sponsorship packages range up to $10,000.

Spring craft fair organizers seek vendors
Organizers for the May 6 spring craft fair at the Murrysville Community Library are seeking vendors.
The show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library, 4130 Sardis Road. Vendor spaces with a maximum table length of eight feet are $30. Applications are available online at MurrysvilleLibrary.org and will be accepted through April 15.

FR kindergarten registration open
Registration is open for Franklin Regional families with children entering kindergarten in the 2023-‘24 school year. It is open until March 31. Visit FRSDk12.org and click on “Enroll Your Child” to register online.

Library speaker will discuss paranormal occurrences in western Pa.
The Delmont Public Library will host featured speaker Stan Gordon for a talk on reports of UFOs and Bigfoot in western Pennsylvania on March 29.
Gordon will discuss his studies of paranormal incidents, as well as Bigfoot and UFO cases, including his research of the alleged 1965 crash landing of a UFO near Kecksburg.
Gordon began his research of strange phenomena in 1959, at age 10, and expanded into field investigations after the Kecksburg incident, and has been taking calls from the public and investigating unusual encounters since 1969.
The talk will be at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 75 School Street in Delmont.

Murrysville Woman’s Club accepting scholarship applications
The Murrysville Woman’s Club is currently taking applications for a minimum of three Marielle Bartolomucci Memorial Scholarships, valued at $3,000 each.
For the past 40 years the club has awarded scholarships to Westmoreland County women at least 21 years old, who about enrolled or accepted at a college of other institution of higher education.

AUP meeting planned
The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates will host a March 30 dinner, 5:30 p.m. at Atria’s, 110 Beverly Road in Mt. Lebanon.

Garden club to host speaker series
The Murrysville Garden Club will host a series of speakers this spring throughout the municipality. Programs will include:

• April 27: “Herb Growing and Harvesting,” presented by Ellen Marsilli at the First United Methodist Church, 3916 Old William Penn Highway.
• May 25: “Westmoreland Conservation District,” presented by Jen Novak at the Murrysville library.
All programs will start at 10:30 a.m., and are open to the public.
