March for Parks spreads out for 2021

The 19th annual March for Parks on March 27 will defer to health and safety, and spread out from its traditional two locations to include all 10 Westmoreland County parks and all five of its trails.

The march raises money for new county park and trail projects. Marchers collect contributions individually or in teams of three or more. Registration locations will be set up at Twin Lakes, Northmoreland, Mammoth, Bridgeport Dam and Ann Rudd Saxman Nature parks, as well as at the Murrysville Community Center (3091 Carson Ave.), by the caboose along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Export, and at the History Education Center at Historic Hanna’s Town (809 Forbes Trail Road).

Murrysville recreation department will host Easter drive-thru

The Easter Bunny will hop through Murrysville on March 26, when the recreation department hosts an Easter drive-thru celebration from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the municipal building, 4100 Sardis Road.

Families can drive through to be greeted by the Easter Bunny and yellow chick, and pick up a free treat bag while supplies last.

There is no cost to participate, and pre-registration is not required.

‘What does clean water access mean to you?’

As the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation celebrates this year as the 50th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Environmental Rights Amendment, foundation officials want to know from Pennsylvanians, “What does access to clean water mean to you?”

State residents are invited to reflect on their right and access to clean water through what is called a cinquain poem, which is similar to a haiku in the sense that each line includes a certain number of syllables. In a cinquain, there are five lines, containing syllables in the following order: 2-4-6-8-2.

Poems can be submitted by email to PAEnviroRights@paparksandforests.org, or via the foundation’s social media channels using the hashtag #PAEnviroRights50. Submissions are open through March 31.
