Upcoming public meetings

The following public meetings will take place in the Star’s coverage area in the coming weeks:

• Franklin Regional school board, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 9. Meetings are streamed online at YouTube.com/user/FranklinRegionalSD.

• Delmont council, 7 p.m., Nov. 10 at the borough building, 77 Greensburg St.

• Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority, 6 p.m., Nov. 12 at the authority office, 3001 Meadowbrook Road in Murrysville.

Church to host Narcan, Deterra distribution

The Westmoreland County Drug & Alcohol Commission, North Huntingdon EMS Rescue, Sage’s Army and SPHS Behavioral Health will host a Nov. 12 drive-thru distribution for Narcan (naloxone) and Deterra drug deactivation bags.

It will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the parking lot of Calvary Church, 8653 Pennsylvania Ave. in Irwin.

Instruction on administering Narcan will be provided. There is no cost.

While physicians may prescribe Narcan proactively with opioids to minimize the risk of chemical dependency, it is most frequently used in emergency situations.

Route 366 bridge work complete

Replacement of a bridge carrying Route 366 over Pucketa Creek in Murrysville is expected to be complete by Friday afternoon, and the detours associated with it, for Hankey Church and Old Greensburg roads, will no longer be in place.

Library will hold ‘Back the Blue’ event

The Delmont Public Library will host a “Back the Blue” event to thank local police for their service.

It will be from 11 a.m. to noon, Nov. 13 at the library, 77 Greensburg Street. Residents are encouraged to visit, drop off a note or gift or show appreciation in their own way.

For those unable to attend, cards or gifts can be dropped of at the library Monday or Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Woman’s club will host fundraiser for firefighters

The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host a “Firefighters Christmas Brunch” at 10 a.m., Nov. 14 at the Lamplighter Restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.

The cost is $25 and includes a breakfast buffet. The event will also include baskets and a Chinese auction, with all proceeds to benefit local firefighters.

Basket raffle to benefit kidney transplant patient

Export Floral will hold a basket raffle to benefit a former employee, Stacey McKay Campbell, who is in need of a second kidney transplant.

The basket is worth more than $275, and the winning ticket will be drawn Oct. 31.

Tickets can be purchased at the store, 5894 Washington Ave., in Export, for $5 each, three for $10, or ten for $20.

Delmont VFD hosting hoagie sale

The Delmont Volunteer Fire Department will host a hoagie sale on Oct. 31.

Hoagies are $7 each, and all proceeds will benefit the fire department.

The fire hall is at 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.
