Kindergarten registration opens at FR

Kindergarten registration is open and being accepted online for Franklin Regional students through March 31.

Parents and visit FRSDk12.org, click on “Parents & Community,” followed by links for “Enroll Your Child” and “Kindergarten 2024-25.

An evening parent information fair will take place March 7.

Delmont library closed on Presidents’ Day

The Delmont Public Library will be closed in observance of Presidents’ Day on Feb. 19.

Bushy Run sewing group

The Bushy Run Sewing Circle will host monthly meetings in 2024 with 1 p.m. sessions on Feb. 25, March 24, April 28 and May 26.

Stitchers of all styles, abilities, ages and interests are invited to attend the free sessions at Bushy Run’s Stone Room. Attendees must provide their own materials, and members of the sewing circle will provide guidance.

Knitting program at Murrysville library

The Murrysville Community Library will host a “Mindful Spinning and Knitting” program at noon Feb. 19.

Presenter Dorothy Gallagher will show how old art forms can be part of modern living. Gallagher will show how to practice mindfulness, gratitude and self-development through knitting and spinning. She will demonstrate how she spins her own yarn by hand and show her latest fiber-art pieces.

Woman’s club to host annual fashion show

The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host its annual spring fashion show at 10 a.m. March 23.

It will be at the Lamplighter Restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. It will be a breakfast buffet followed by the fashion show, hosted by Marge Predmore.

There will be raffle basket chances for sale. Proceeds will benefit the club’s community projects. Tickets are $30, and are available by calling 412-760-5809.

Panthers Against Cancer fundraiser

• The FR Panthers Against Cancer Club and the Triangle Bar & Grill will host a hoagie sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 11 outside the Berkshire Hathaway offices at the Creekside Shoppes, 4420 William Penn Highway, and at 4373 Old William Penn Highway, both in Murrysville.

They will offer Italian and turkey hoagies for $8 each.

• The FR Panthers Against Cancer Club and the Italian American Club in Export will host a Feb. 23 fundraiser fish fry at the the club, 5930 Kennedy Avenue in Export. It will be from 4-9 p.m. and will include a 50/50 raffle in addition to the fish fry.

Physical therapy talk at ‘Boomers and Beyond’

The “Boomers and Beyond” speaker series at Mother of Sorrows Church will feature Alliance Physical Therapy owners Dr. Colin Gundling and Dr. David Thompson. They will present “Movement is Medicine! How Choosing Physical Therapy First Can Get You Better Faster.”

It will be at noon Feb. 13 at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

There is no cost. Attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages will be provided.

Church program explores social media

Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church staff will host a series focused on the impact of social media, beginning Feb. 19. It will take place at 5:45 p.m. on Monday evenings through March 25, using Sadie Robertson Huff’s book, “Who Are You Following? Pursuing Jesus in a Social-Media Obsessed World,” as a guide.

Seed swap at Delmont library

The Delmont Public Library will host a seed swap for home gardeners from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10.

Home gardeners are invited to bring packets of their own garden seeds — flowers and vegetables — to trade. Penn State Master Gardeners will also be on hand to answer questions.

There is no cost to attend.

‘Brawl in the Burgh 20’

247 Fighting Championships will host an evening of mixed martial arts, “Brawl in the Burgh 20,” on Feb. 24 at the Murrysville SportZone.

Tickets range from $50 to $115.

Murrysville and Delmont officials remind senior residents that a small discount is available on trash hauling services for senior citizens.

Tax help at Delmont library

Associates from Westmoreland Community Action Center will be at the Delmont Public Library to help residents with their income tax returns every Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
