Summer festivals

• Export’s annual Ethnic Food and Music Festival will be from 12-9 p.m. Aug. 19 on Washington Avenue. Main stage entertainment will be DeStella Dance Studio (12:15 p.m.), Jack Tady (1 p.m.), The Licks (3:30 p.m.), Americana (5:30 p.m.) and Brothers Kelly (7:30 p.m.). The East End stage bands will be Winery Cats (1 p.m) and Liquor Missiles (3:30 p.m.).

• Murrysville’s annual Concert in the Park will be Aug. 12 with Woodland Creatures (4 p.m.), Abbot’s Cross (5:25 p.m.), RML Jazz (6:30 p.m.) and a headliner to be announced. It is at Murrysville Community Par, 4056 Wiestertown Road.

• Delmont Daze, 12-7 p.m. Aug. 5, with crafts, balloon art, face painting, Weird Eric the magician, food trucks, local spirits from White Valley Distillery, Salem Spirits and Red Barn Winery and more. Live music from On Our Way Home (1 p.m.), the Delmont Concert Band (3 p.m.) and Sweaty Already String Band (4 p.m.). It will be at the Rose Wigfield Parklet, 27 Greensburg Street.

Local author will discuss cryptids

Westmoreland County resident and author Stan Gordon will host “An Illustrated Historic Synopsis of Pennsylvania’s UFO and Bigfoot Encounters” on Aug. 1 at the Murrysville Community Library.

Gordon’s presentation covers the government investigation of UFO sightings to continuous unexplained events along the Chestnut Ridge.

Gordon’s most recent book, “Creepy Cryptids and Strange UFO Encounters of Pennsylvania,” was published in 2022. A Q&A session will take place following the presentation, which will be at 6 p.m. at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.

Donations for Delmont library book sale

Delmont Public Library officials are accepting donations for its annual book sale, set for Aug 19.

Library staff will accept fiction, nonfiction and children’s books as well as DVDs and books on CD through Aug. 17. Musty or moldy books, or encyclopedias will not be accepted.

Donations can be dropped off at the library, 75 School Street in Delmont.

21st annual Old Fashioned Picnic at Fairview Park

Historic Fairview Park, just outside Delmont in Salem, will host its 21st annual Old Fashioned Picnic from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

Bring a picnic basket, coolers, blankets and lawn chairs for an afternoon including old-fashioned games for children and adults of all ages. Pets and alcohol are not permitted. There is no cost to attend.

The park is on Old William Penn Highway between Hawes Drive and Energy Way in Salem.

Westmoreland County Democratic Committee picnic

The Westmoreland County Democratic Committee will host its annual picnic from 1-3:30 p.m. Aug. 6.

It will be in Pavilion No. 5 at Mammoth Park, 171 County Park Road in Mount Pleasant.

There is no cost to attend. All registered Democrats are invited, and may bring a covered dish to share.

‘Music and Memoir’ at Murrysville library

The Murrysville Community Library will host flutist Gemma Stemley at 2 p.m. July 15 for “Music and Memoir,” where Stemley will share music from her home, Trinidad & Tobago.

Stemley will also read selections from her recent memoir, “Finding Home: A Sentimental Journey.”

Car cruise to benefit Autism Employment Network

The Papa Rocks Pizza Pub will host a classic car cruise from noon to 4 p.m. July 16 in Monroeville.

The event will include food sales and live entertainment, along with raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds will benefit the Autism Employment Network.
