FR marching band performance
The Franklin Regional Panther Marching Band will host a stadium review performance at 6 p.m. Oct. 5.
The event will feature food trucks, a 50/50 raffle and a performance by the band. There is no cost to attend, however donations to the Joe Panther Fund, the boosters’ student trip account, are encouraged.
It will be at Panther Stadium, 3200 School Road in Murrysville.
Veteran appreciation breakfast
An Oct. 19 veteran appreciation breakfast will take place at The Lamplighter.
It will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. The breakfast is open to all veterans who live in the 55th Legislative District.
“It’s my favorite event of the year,” Cooper said. “At the end of one of our breakfasts, a gentleman who was a Vietnam veteran came up to me with his certificate of appreciation and told me, ‘This is one of the only things the government has done for me since I came home from the war.’ It almost made me cry.”

Gearhard Farms corn maze
The corn maze at Gearhard Farms in Murrysville is open for the season. This year is the 25th anniversary of the maze, which is cut in a different design every year.
Last year the maze was themed on the 250th anniversary of Westmoreland County, with the county’s outline, the 1773 and 2023 anniversary dates, a sun, the word “Westmoreland” and the ubiquitous “GF” for “Gearhard Farms.”
Individuals and groups can purchase tickets for the maze.

Drilling company sponsors gym scoreboard
Unconventional drilling company Olympus Energy has entered into a five-year contract to be the name sponsor for the main scoreboard in the Franklin Regional Senior High School gymnasium.
The company will pay $5,000 per year to serve as the sponsor.
Art show set for Oct. 25
The Murrysville Woman’s Club art show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Redstone Highlands in Murrysville.
The show is open to all artists. All work submitted must be original and cannot use molds, kits or copies. This year’s judge is Jeffrey Rouse, owner of New Growth Gallery in New Alexandria.

Church welcomes South Sudan worship leader
Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville will welcome guest preacher Rev. Thomas Tut, who will lead 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services on Sept. 22.
Tut is a prominent figure in the African nation’s Christian community, and has spent time and effort working to promote peace, education and social justice in the country.

FR to induct 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame class
Franklin Regional officials invite the community to attend the induction of the district’s 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame class.
This year inductees include Andrew Cohen (A’04 track and field), Brian Grimm (A’84, cross country/track and field), Tyler Smith (A’14, wrestling), Gay Eyles Stock (A’77, swimming), Pam Miklasevich Sumner (A’79, basketball), the 2005 varsity football team, Herb Yingling (A’68, contributor) and this year’s legacy introduction from before FR became a consolidated district, 1951 Franklin Township baseball team members James Cappa, John Liprando, Carl Skena and Warren Stuck.
The induction ceremony, hosted by Pittsburgh sports personality Bill Hillgrove, will be at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 27 at the FR Senior High School Auditorium, 3200 School Road in Murrysville. Guests are asked to park at the rear of the high school and enter near the auditorium.
A brief recognition will also take place at 6:30 p.m., prior to the start of FR’s home football game against Kiski Area.

Fall craft festival
Plum Masonic Lodge 799 will host its second annual fall craft festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the lodge, 9521 Saltsburg Road in Plum.

Moms in Prayer group
The Murrysville chapter of Moms in Prayer will begin its 2024-25 regular meetings at Murrysville First Presbyterian Church.
Meetings take place weekly at 1:15 p.m. on Thursdays in the church’s parlor, 3202 North Hills Road in Murrysville.
Women of all faith denominations are invited to pray for children, grandchildren and other relatives and their schools.

AAUW fall used book, puzzle sale
The Murrysville chapter of the American Association of University Women is seeking donations in October for the group’s annual fall used book and puzzle sale, which will take place Nov. 14-16 at the Murrysville Community Library.
Requested donations include gently used books or puzzles. Encyclopedias, manuals, textbooks and musty or moldy books will not be accepted.

Charity golf outing
The Westmoreland chapter of nonprofit Twilight Wish will host its eighth annual Charity Golf Outing Sept. 28 at Manor Valley Golf Course.
The cost is $100 per golfer (sponsorships are also available).
Dinner-only tickets are also available for $30.
Twilight Wish works to grant wishes for senior citizens, ranging from simple needs like clothing, lift chairs and hearing aids, to life wishes for patients with limited life expectancy and one-time wishes like riding on a motorcycle, meeting a celebrity or flying on a fighter jet.
Checks can be made payable to “Twilight Wish Foundation of Westmoreland County” and mailed to Jamie Bostard, WC Chapter Director, 1084 Manorvue Court, Delmont, PA, 15626.
The course is at 2090 Denmark Manor Road in Penn Township.
Blessing of the Pets
Union Presbyterian Church will host a blessing of the pets service at noon, Sept. 21 at the church, 656 Route 380 in Murrysville.
The service will include treats for pets. Attendees are asked to bring an item to donate to New Kensington Animal Protectors.

Music director wanted
Faith Global Methodist Church in Delmont is seeking a music director/organist.
The part-time position would include organ playing at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services and other special services, and leading the church choir, which meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays for rehearsals.
