Delmont library to present Emily Dickinson program

Guest Jim Arnold will present “Judge Tenderly of Me,” a program about the life of poet Emily Dickinson.

It will be at 4:30 p.m. March 2 at the Delmont Public Library, 77 School Street.

The program delves into Dickinson’s life, slowly becoming a journey through it by way of her words and poems, touching on her childhood, her time during the Civil War, her education and her home.

Export Business Group meeting

The next meeting of the Export Business Group will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at Wade’s Breakfast and Grille, 5891 Washington Avenue in Export.

Business owners from the borough are invited to attend.

Woman’s club to host annual fashion show

The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host its annual Spring Fashion Show at 10 a.m. March 25 at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Salem.

A breakfast brunch will be followed by the show, featuring Fashions by Marge Predmore. Club members will be hosting a basket raffle. All proceeds will go toward the club’s community projects.

Comedy nights to benefit Westmoreland trails, parks

An evening of stand-up comedy will benefit Westmoreland County’s parks and concert series.

It will be 6-10 p.m. Feb. 24 at Youngwood VFD Hose Company No. 1, 104 South Second Street in Youngwood. Tickets are $30 per person, and can be purchased at the A&S Indoor Pistol Range, 617 Old Route 119 in Youngwood, or the county parks office. For more, call 724-830-3959.

Dinner is included with tickets, and the evening includes 50/50 drawings and basket auctions. No tickets will be sold at the door. The show is for those ages 21 and older.

Delmont library programs

• Tax help: By appointment only, will take place at noon Feb. 21, and 10 a.m. Feb. 25. Staff from Westmoreland Community Action will be on hand to help residents. Call 888-856-2773 or email mgamblin@westmorelandca.org to schedule an appointment.

• We Love the Library! Party: 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15, join library staff for snacks, crafts, games and stories celebrating love and the library. For children ages 2-10. Registration is required by calling 724-468-5329.

• Delmont Historical Society meeting: 7 p.m. Feb. 27.

• Delmont Pilgrimage committee meeting: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28.

FR students perform at Young Artists Competition recital

Winners in the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and Seton Hill University Young Artists Competition will take part in a Feb. 12 recital at the university in Greensburg.

On Feb. 5, finalists from across the region competed for cash prizes and a chance to perform at the recital, set for 2:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Seton Hill’s Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Avenue in Greensburg.

It will feature:

• Level I: A.J. Schmidt, Franklin Regional freshman (flute, first place); Nia Hannington, Franklin Regional freshman (flute, second place); Elsa Bandli, Franklin Regional eighth grade (flute, third place); and Nolan Schnauber, Greensburg Central Catholic seventh grade (violin, honorable mention)

• Level I Piano: William Duvall, PA Cyber Charter School freshman (first place); and Levi Pecorari, homeschooled, fifth grade (honorable mention)

• Level II: Anna Qin, Franklin Regional sophomore (flute, first place); Madison Kraynick, Greater Latrobe senior and Regina Zezza, Greater Latobe sophomore (tied for second place)

• Level II Piano: Lucy Zheng, Franklin Regional sophomore; and Praneel Varshney, Franklin Regional senior

Performers will present a recital of pieces chosen from their audition programs by the judges. The Young Artist Competition has been held since the 1980s, and is open to students who reside or take private music lessons in Westmoreland or Fayette counties.

‘Night at the Races’ to benefit FR baseball team

The Franklin Regional Baseball Boosters and sponsor A&L Motors will host “A Night at the Races” Feb. 25 as a benefit for the FR baseball team.

Pre-recorded thoroughbred horse races will be announced by a veteran caller during an evening of food, fun and friendly wagers to raise money for FR baseball.

It will be Feb. 25 at St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, 497 Athena Drive in Delmont. Doors open at 5:15 p.m., with the first race starting at 6 p.m. Attendees must be 21 years old to attend. Admission includes dinner by Jaden’s Catering along with beer and mixers.

Tickets range from $35 to $85 and are available at Eventbrite.com — enter “FR baseball night races” in the search box.

AUP meeting planned

The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates will host a Feb. 21 dinner at Max’s Allegheny Tavern, 537 Suismon Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood.

The club invites four-year college graduates, age 50 and older, to join them for fun events and to meet new people. RSVP to any of the dinners by calling 412-736-9988 or emailing tonypolombo@gmail.com.

Delmont texting service

Delmont residents are now able to opt into an SMS messaging service to receive text messages from the borough about upcoming events as well as emergency alerts.

Residents are required to opt in if they wish to join or both lists. The system is not monitored, and anyone with questions is asked to call the borough office at 724-468-4422.

Delmont TOPS group meets at church

The Delmont chapter of Take Pounds Off Sensibly, or TOPS, meets at 3 p.m. every Tuesday at the Delmont Presbyterian Church, 101 Church St. Private weigh-ins will take place at 2:30 p.m.
