Rotary to host Oktoberfest
The Murrysville-Export Rotary will host its annual Oktoberfest from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 14 at The Lamplighter.
Early-bird online tickets are $30; door tickets are $35. All tickets include dinner and one alcoholic beverage. Additional glasses of beer and wine will be $4.
The Lamplighter is at 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.

AAUW to host filmmaker, historian
The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will host filmmaker Pauline Greenlick and labor historian Charles McCollester as the featured speakers for their Sept. 12 meeting set for 10 a.m. at the Murrysville Community Library’s TechNook.
They will share their experiences documenting social and human rights activist Alice Lynd and her husband Staughton. Both Harvard graduates, the Lynds were involved in several pivotal moments in the U.S. during the 1960s including the anti-war and civil rights movements.
McCollester was a 2023 speaker at the AAUW, discussing the history of Pittsburgh’s railroad riots and steel strikes.

GOP center opening
The Murrysville Export Republican Committee will host a grand opening for its 2024 Republican Victory Center at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 in Murrysville.
It will be at the Creeksides Shopping Center, 4482 William Penn Highway, in the former home of Kabinet Koncepts. Local and elected officials will be on hand for the opening along with local committee members and 2024 Republican election candidates.
The center’s regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Self-defense class
ATA Martial Arts brand ambassador and third-degree black belt Shannon Kearney will host a free self-defense class at ATA Martial Arts in Murrysville.
It will be at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 12 at ATA, 4950C William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

Charity golf outing
The Westmoreland chapter of nonprofit Twilight Wish will host its eighth annual Charity Golf Outing Sept. 28 at Manor Valley Golf Course.
The cost is $100 per golfer (sponsorships are also available).
Dinner-only tickets are also available for $30.
Twilight Wish works to grant wishes for senior citizens, ranging from simple needs like clothing, lift chairs and hearing aids, to life wishes for patients with limited life expectancy and one-time wishes like riding on a motorcycle, meeting a celebrity or flying on a fighter jet.
Checks can be made payable to “Twilight Wish Foundation of Westmoreland County” and mailed to Jamie Bostard, WC Chapter Director, 1084 Manorvue Court, Delmont, PA, 15626.
The course is at 2090 Denmark Manor Road in Penn Township.
Medicare update
The Mother of Sorrows Church’s “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series will welcome One2One Insurance Advisors owner Chris Grieco as its featured speaker on Sept. 10.
Grieco will outline the basics of Medicare and how it coordinates with private drug benefit insurance, as well as drug benefits which will change in 2025 policies as a result of the recent Inflation Reduction Act.
It will be at noon at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
There is no cost to attend, and participants may bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages are provided.

Blessing of the Pets
Union Presbyterian Church will host a blessing of the pets service at noon, Sept. 21 at the church, 656 Route 380 in Murrysville.
The service will include treats for pets. Attendees are asked to bring an item to donate to New Kensington Animal Protectors.
Pastor Bob Ruefle will bless the pets.

International Women
The International Women group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville.
The program will feature member Sharon Battle, a local travel agent who will offer highlights from recent trips to Europe and the Middle East.
All women in the community are invited to attend.
Class reunion
The Franklin Regional Senior High School Class of 1989 will hold a 35th-anniversary reunion on Sept. 7.
It will be at the Red Barn Winery, 275 Manor Road just outside Delmont.

Music director wanted
Faith Global Methodist Church in Delmont is seeking a music director/organist.
The part-time position would include organ playing at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services and other special services, and leading the church choir, which meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays for rehearsals.
