Franklin Regional open house tours
Franklin Regional school officials will host open house tours of its school buildings in August for all students. They will take place on the following dates:
• Senior high school: 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 17, 18 and 21, for students entering grades 9-12.
• Middle school: Sixth grade, Aug. 17; seventh grade, Aug. 18; eighth grade, Aug. 21. All open houses are from 6:30-8 p.m.
• Primary and intermediate schools: Aug. 17 for students entering kindergarten and third grade. Parents of kindergarten students will be able to sign up for a staggered start date and time at this event; first and fourth grades, Aug. 18; and for second and fifth grades, Aug. 21. All open houses are from 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorial event benefits Westmoreland Heritage Trail
The third annual Ted Hayes Memorial Bike Ride/Run/Walk to benefit the Westmoreland Heritage Trail will be Aug. 26 at the Slickville Fireman’s Pavilion.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the event kicking off at 10 a.m. Along with Bill O’Hara, Hayes oversaw development of the first section of trail, from Slickville to Saltsburg. He was an active volunteer and trail board member.
The ride/walk/run will leave from the pavilion, 3028 Route 819 in Slickville, and go to Saltsburg and back, with a picnic lunch, auction baskets and entertainment to follow. Registration is $35.

Shredding event
Officials at State Rep. Jill Cooper’s Washington Township office will host an Aug. 12 shredding event open to the public.
It will be from 9-11 a.m. at Cooper’s office in Donal Plaza, 105 Pfeffer Road in Washington Township.
There is a limit of two bags or boxes per household. Examples of items to shred include bank records, credit card statements, tax documents, insurance claim forms and anything else listing sensitive personal information like a Social Security number.

Export festival street closures
Export officials announced the following street closures for the borough’s upcoming Ethnic Food & Music Festival, set for Aug. 19:
• Gale Court will close at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 and will reopen at 8 a.m. Aug. 20
• The borough parking lot will close at 11 p.m. Aug. 18 and reopen at 8 a.m. Aug. 20. The lot is closed to parking with the exception of vendors who have a parking pass.
• Washington Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. Aug. 18 to 8 a.m. Aug. 20.
• Lincoln Avenue will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 19. Drivers can detour via Polk Street, Madison Avenue and the borough parking lot.
• Brick Hill Road will be closed at District Court 10-3-02 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 19.
‘Boomers & Beyond’ speaker discusses 911 procedures
EMS, fire and rescue instructor James Thomas will present, “So, You Called 911. Now What?” on Aug. 8 as part of the Mother of Sorrows “Boomer & Beyond” speaker series.
Thomas is a member of Monroeville Fire Company No. 4 and has been a paramedic since 1984. Thomas will share practical insights on being prepared for emergency situations.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation is at noon. Attendees can bring a bag lunch; beverages will be available.
Mother of Sorrows is at 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
County will bury 250th anniversary time capsule
Westmoreland County officials are seeking items to place in a time capsule that will be buried as part of its 250th anniversary.
Murrysville officials put a call out to residents to submit ideas about what to contribute that would be representative of the municipality.

Summer festivals
• Delmont Daze, 12-7 p.m. Aug. 5, with crafts, balloon art, face painting, Weird Eric the magician, food trucks, local spirits from White Valley Distillery, Salem Spirits and Red Barn Winery and more. Live music from On Our Way Home (1 p.m.), the Delmont Concert Band (3 p.m.) and Sweaty Already String Band (4 p.m.). It will be at the Rose Wigfield Parklet, 27 Greensburg St.
• Export’s annual Ethnic Food and Music Festival will be from 12-9 p.m. Aug. 19 on Washington Avenue. Main stage entertainment will be DeStella Dance Studio (12:15 p.m.), Jack Tady (1 p.m.), The Licks (3:30 p.m.), Americana (5:30 p.m.) and Brothers Kelly (7:30 p.m.). The East End stage bands will be Winery Cats (1 p.m) and Liquor Missiles (3:30 p.m.).
• Murrysville’s annual Concert in the Park will be Aug. 12 with Woodland Creatures (4 p.m.), Abbot’s Cross (5:25 p.m.), RML Jazz (6:30 p.m.) and the Saddle Up Band (8 p.m.). The evening will close with a fireworks display. It is at Murrysville Community Park, 4056 Wiestertown Road.

Donations for Delmont library book sale
Delmont Public Library officials are accepting donations for its annual book sale, set for Aug 19.
Library staff will accept fiction, nonfiction and children’s books as well as DVDs and books on CD through Aug. 17. Musty or moldy books, or encyclopedias will not be accepted.
Donations can be dropped off at the library, 75 School Street in Delmont.
