Murrysville Woman’s Club news

• The Murrysville Woman’s Club recently donated $800 to several local fire companies, using proceeds from its annual holiday tea.

The club donated to the Murrysville, Sardis, White Valley, Delmont and Export fire departments.

• The club’s regular monthly meeting will be at 11:15 a.m. Feb. 15 at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. The program will feature a robotics demonstration by Franklin Regional students.

‘Sermon on the Mount’ on Ash Wednesday

Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church officials will host an Ash Wednesday services that includes music and a reading of the “Sermon on the Mount” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14.

State rep will host grants workshop

State Rep. Jill Cooper, R-55, will host a Feb. 9 grants workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the Delmont Fire Hall, 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.

Guest speakers will include Johnna Pro, southwest regional director for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and Adam Mattis, southwest regional manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Panthers Against Cancer fundraiser

The FR Panthers Against Cancer Club and the Triangle Bar & Grill will host a hoagie sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 11 outside the Berkshire Hathaway offices at the Creekside Shoppes, 4420 William Penn Highway, and at 4373 Old William Penn Highway, both in Murrysville.

They will offer Italian and turkey hoagies for $8 each. Proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Physical therapy talk at ‘Boomers and Beyond’

The “Boomers and Beyond” speaker series at Mother of Sorrows Church will feature Alliance Physical Therapy owners Dr. Colin Gundling and Dr. David Thompson. They will present “Movement is Medicine! How Choosing Physical Therapy First Can Get You Better Faster.”

It will be at noon Feb. 13 at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

There is no cost. Attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages will be provided.

Church program explores social media

Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church staff will host a series focused on the impact of social media, beginning Feb. 19. It will take place at 5:45 p.m. on Monday evenings through March 25, using Sadie Robertson Huff’s book, “Who Are You Following? Pursuing Jesus in a Social-Media Obsessed World,” as a guide.

Seed swap at Delmont library

The Delmont Public Library will host a seed swap for home gardeners from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10.

Home gardeners are invited to bring packets of their own garden seeds — flowers and vegetables — to trade. Penn State Master Gardeners will also be on hand to answer questions.

There is no cost to attend.

‘Brawl in the Burgh 20’

247 Fighting Championships will host an evening of mixed martial arts, “Brawl in the Burgh 20,” on Feb. 24 at the Murrysville SportZone.

Tickets range from $50 to $115.

Bingo at St. Barbara Parish

St. Barbara Parish in Penn Township’s Harrison City neighborhood will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 8 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. There are increased payouts of $150, $175 and $1,400. Admission packages start at $27 and doors open at 5 p.m. Also available are early birds, quickies, all-nighter, 50/50 and games of chance.

Comedy night will benefit trail projects

An evening of stand-up comedy will benefit Westmoreland Heritage Trail and Five Star Trail projects.

It will be from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 10 at Colton Hall, 3100 Blocks Road in Penn Township’s Claridge neighborhood. The $35 ticket includes food, 50/50 drawings, basket auctions, a cash bar and more. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are only available to those 21 and older.

Murrysville and Delmont officials remind senior residents that a small discount is available on trash hauling services for senior citizens.

Tax help at Delmont library

Associates from Westmoreland Community Action Center will be at the Delmont Public Library to help residents with their income tax returns every Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
