SportZone seeking proposals for naming rights

The Murrysville SportZone is accepting bids for arena naming rights at the athletic complex on School Road South.

The 30,000-square-foot sports and event complex hosts dek and inline hockey, volleyball, wrestling, soccer and in recent years, mixed-martial arts and boxing matches.

Easter drive-thru in Murrysville

Murrysville recreation and library officials will host an Easter drive-thru from 3:30-4:30 p.m. March 27 at the municipal complex at 4100 Sardis Road.

Participants will receive a free treat bag while supplies last, and can greet the Easter Bunny and Yellow Peep characters.

Kindergarten registration opens at FR

Kindergarten registration is open and being accepted online for Franklin Regional students through March 31.

Parents and visit FRSDk12.org, click on “Parents & Community,” followed by links for “Enroll Your Child” and “Kindergarten 2024-25.

An evening parent information fair will take place March 7.

International Women to feature pandemic speaker

The International Women group will welcome Dr. Thomas Soltis at its March 1 meeting to discuss the similarities between the 1918 influenza and 2020 covid-19 pandemics. The presentation will include a Q&A session.

It will be at 9:30 a.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. All women in the community are invited to attend.

Bushy Run sewing group

The Bushy Run Sewing Circle will host monthly meetings in 2024 with 1 p.m. sessions on Feb. 25, March 24, April 28 and May 26.

Stitchers of all styles, abilities, ages and interests are invited to attend the free sessions at Bushy Run’s Stone Room. Attendees must provide their own materials, and members of the sewing circle will provide guidance.

Woman’s club events

• The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host its annual spring fashion show at 10 a.m. March 23.

It will be at the Lamplighter Restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. It will be a breakfast buffet followed by the fashion show, hosted by Marge Predmore.

There will be raffle basket chances for sale. Proceeds will benefit the club’s community projects. Tickets are $30, and are available by calling 412-760-5809.

• The club is also offering at least three non-traditional, $3,000 scholarships for women from Westmoreland County, 21 and older, who are currently enrolled in college or can provide proof of acceptance.

The club has awarded scholarships for four decades to women seeking education and job training.

Applications are available at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Westmoreland County Community College campuses in Youngwood and Murrysville, and the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, along with the Murrysville, Delmont, Greensburg, Hempfield and New Kensington libraries.

The application deadline is April 20.

Panthers Against Cancer fundraiser

The FR Panthers Against Cancer Club and the Italian American Club in Export will host a Feb. 23 fundraiser fish fry at the the club, 5930 Kennedy Avenue in Export. It will be from 4-9 p.m. and will include a 50/50 raffle in addition to the fish fry.

‘Brawl in the Burgh 20’

247 Fighting Championships will host an evening of mixed martial arts, “Brawl in the Burgh 20,” on Feb. 24 at the Murrysville SportZone.

Tickets range from $50 to $115.

Hauling discount for senior citizens

Murrysville and Delmont officials remind senior residents that a small discount is available on trash hauling services for senior citizens.
