Donations for used book sale
The Murrysville American Association of University Women is accepting donations for its annual used book sale.
The actual sale will take place Nov. 9-11, and association members and Murrysville Community Library officials are collecting used items through Nov. 7 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road.
Items to donate include fiction, non-fiction and children’s books, as well as jigsaw puzzles (no missing pieces).
Encyclopedias, manuals, textbooks, and musty or moldy books will not be accepted.

Woman’s club schedules annual Christmas Tea
The Murrysville Woman’s Club will host its annual Christmas Tea fundraiser at noon Nov. 18 at the Lamplighter Restaurant.
The event includes a silent auction for a wide variety of gift baskets.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased from club members or by calling 412-760-5809.
Foundation seeking grant applications
The Community Foundation of Murrysville, Export and Delmont is accepting applications through Dec. 15 for grants to nonprofit organizations in all three towns.
Grants in the range of several hundred dollars will be awarded to groups demonstrating a need for small sums to make a significant, long-term impact on the local community.

‘Paint & Sip’ event to benefit Myasthenia Gravis Association
The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA will host its fourth annual Virtual Holiday Paint & Sip Celebration on Dec. 7.
The event will benefit MGA’s free patient support services. For a $50 donation, participants will receive a link to participate, the supplies needed to create a snowflake-inspired painting, and two bottles from Kavic Winery in Carnegie.
The paint session will be led by art therapist Kristy Walter.
For an additional fee, participants can take part in a Christmas cookie exchange and virtual reindeer races.

Children’s events at Newlonsburg church
Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church will host two upcoming children’s events.
The first is a “Trunk or Treat” from 3-4 p.m. Oct. 29. Parents and guardians can bring costumed children to trick-or-treat from car to car. Allergy-friendly treats will also be available.
On Nov. 9, the church will host a “Paint and Play” event for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It will include open gym time and a pottery painting activity led by Brushes and Beans Cafe.
Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. Dessert will be provided.

Pumpkin painting, hay rides in Delmont
The Delmont Recreation Committee will host its second annual Pumpkin Painting and Hay Ride fundraiser Oct. 21 at Newhouse Park.
The event starts at noon and will include pumpkin decorating, hay rides, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee and kielbasa and hot dogs. The cost is $10 for adults. Children are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit the committee’s programs.
Newhouse Park is off Stotler Road in Delmont.
Curbside leaf collection set
Murrysville residents can schedule a curbside pick-up for leaves and yard waste on Nov. 18 and Dec. 9.
Forms to schedule a pick-up are available at Murrysville.com by clicking “About Us” and then “Forms, Permits & Maps.” There is a 20-bag limit for each collection. The deadline to sign up is the Thursday prior to pick-up.

International Women Club meeting
The International Women Club will welcome guest speaker, poet and author Helga Mears at their next meeting, set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 3.
Mears will present “How Could This Happen? My Family from the Monarchy to Today.” It will detail her birth in Germany during World War II, fleeing from the Russian army to West Germany with her parents and older sister, and moving to the U.S. in 1970, after which she became a high school teacher and adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
All women of the community are invited to attend. The meeting is at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville.

Festival to benefit FR Panther Foundation
The FR Panther Foundation will host the Panther Groove Festival on Oct. 28, featuring the Pittsburgh Doo Wop Big Band and collaborative performance with FR student musicians.
The Pittsburgh Doo Wop Band brings a stage show of music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.
Reserved seating is available with tickets ranging from $15 to $25. The evening will also include a basket raffle and 50/50 drawing. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. at the senior high school, 3200 School Road in Murrysville.
