Spring leaf and yard waste collection will kick off this weekend in Murrysville.
Republic Services will collect leaf and yard waste left at the curb the night before May 9 and 16. To schedule a pickup, call Republic at 877-788-9400.
For those with a fire pit or burn barrel, the municipality’s burn ban will be lifted as of Friday.
“We usually have a brush fire window of late March through early May,” Mayor Regis Synan said. “With many more people home than normal, we anticipated more burning than normal. In some instances, these fires can grow rapidly and require a great number of firefighters.”
Synan asked that people who do choose to burn “keep water close at hand and not burn on windy days.”
In other council business:

• Council also appointed members to fill two vacancies on the municipal planning commission.
Anthony Livecchi’s term will run through Dec. 31, 2021, and Chris Kerns’ term will run through Dec. 31, 2023.
