Murrysville council will consider backing FTMSA's $12 million bond
Murrysville council on Wednesday night will discuss backing the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority’s $12 million bond issue and accept easements from two local property owners for storm water improvements.
FTMSA officials are asking council to back the bond issue, $10 million of which will be used to tackle ongoing problems with the system. Those include overflows, inflow and infiltration of storm water into sewage pipes.
The additional $2 million builds in some flexibility for bond underwriters, according to FTMSA’s bond counsel.
“We need to map the system. There is apparently no reliable mapping of the entire system, which is 300 miles of sewer and 5,000 to 6,000 manholes,” new FTMSA board member Bob Mitall said at council’s previous meeting. “After that will come flow monitoring, and what we’ll do with that is create a hydraulic model of the system.”
FTMSA’s recent rate increase will cover the cost of the bond issue, Mitall said.
Council will also potentially accept easements from Logan Ferry Road property owners for a storm water improvement project.
Wednesday’s meeting is set for 7 p.m. in the municipal building at 4100 Sardis Road. Meetings are also broadcast live on Comcast local access Channel 19.
