Library to host ‘Jingles’n’Gingerbread’
The Murrysville Community Library will host its annual holiday event “Jingles’n’Gingerbread” from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.
The evening will include multiple performances by students from the Newlonsburg Music Academy, the Franklin Regional student string quartet, the East End Kids and more.
There will be crafts, children’s games, multicultural displays, hot chocolate and cookies to go from The Pastry Box food truck and a 6:30 p.m. screening of “Calvin Can’t Fly,” an animated storybook paired with American Sign Language interpretation by Kim Mackey of Murrysville.
Library officials are also seeking volunteers to help bake cookies for the event, or donate their time to help with set-up and break-down. To volunteer, call 724-327-1102.

Export Light Up Night set for Dec. 3
Export Borough will host its annual Light Up Night celebration from 6-9 p.m., Dec. 3 at the Export Volunteer Fire Department, 5815 Washington Ave.
There will be a fish fry at the Export Moose from 4-8 p.m., and beginning at 6 p.m. there will be a free “cookie crawl” along with selfie scavenger hunt. At 7 p.m., Santa arrives and the borough and local businesses will light up the tree and the town. There will also be live music from 8-10 p.m.
Cookie crawl and scavenger hunt prize tickets will be pulled at 9 p.m. at the fire hall.
Internation Women plan holiday program
The International Women Club will host its annual Festive Holiday Celebration at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville.
All women in the community are invited to attend.
The club meeting begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by celebration and Christmas carol singing led by club member Lorraine Balun.

Conservancy to host ‘Hot Chocolate Hike’
The Westmoreland Conservancy will host a “Hot Chocolate Hike” at 10 a.m. Dec. 11, starting at the Morosini Reserve and All-Pedestrian Trail in Murrysville.
The family-friendly, 2- to 3-mile hike is free, and will end with a cup of hot chocolate. While the All-Pedestrian trail is universally accessible, the hike will also include part of the reserve’s hillside, which is a wooded hike with some slopes that may require stepping over fallen trees.

‘Santa at Sardis’ returns to Murrysville
The Murrysville Recreation Department’s “Santa at Sardis: A Holiday Celebration” will be held from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Sardis Park on Rocky Hill Lane.
The afternoon includes s’mores, a bonfire, carriage rides and visits with Santa to kick off the holiday season. Families are asked to carpool due to limited parking, and can bring a chair to enjoy the bonfire.

Second ‘Polar Express’ session added
Due to popular demand, the Murrysville Recreation Department will hold a second reading of “The Polar Express” and “A Visit From St. Nicholas.”
It will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Ave. Registration opens Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. at MurrysvillePArecreation.com/541/youth-programs.
Mother of Sorrows plans Light Up Night
Mother of Sorrows Church invites the community to its annual Light Up Night celebration on Dec. 4.
There will be a 4:30 p.m. Mass followed by a free community dinner. Visitors can purchase gifts at the Santa Shoppe, tour the school’s decorated hallways, visit a living Nativity and more.

Gingerbread house contest entries sought
Murrysville’s “Santa at Sardis” event will include a gingerbread house contest open to individuals, groups and businesses.
Entries must be made of completely edible material with a maximum size of 12 inches wide, 18 inches long and 18 inches high. They must sit on a sturdy board with a name and phone number clearly marked underneath.
