Police to host National Night Out on Aug. 3

The Murrysville Police Department will host the annual National Night Out event from 4:30-8 p.m., Aug. 3 at the police station, 4200 Sardis Road.

National Night Out brings police and community residents together under positive circumstances for an evening of conversation and fellowship.

Residents will have a chance to meet members of the Westmoreland County SWAT team, state police and county public safety. All services will have equipment on display, and the evening will include food trucks and giveaways.

‘Make-your-own-pizza’ fundraiser set

The nonprofit Delmont Visionary Committee will partner with Lilja’s Premiere Pizza in Delmont for a “Make Your Own Pizza” fundraiser on July 25.

Children ages 5-10 will have a chance to create their own personalized pizza between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Lilja’s, 2381 Route 66 in Delmont. A $15 donation will benefit the committee, which is working to bring a spur from the eventual path of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail into the borough.

‘Tuesdays at Townsend’ concert series continues

The Murrysville Recreation Department’s “Tuesdays at Townsend” free outdoor concert series will continue with a performance by Detention from 6:30-8 p.m. July 20 at the park, 130 Townsend Park Court in Murrysville.

Food will be available from the Mobile Chef, and beverages from Sobel’s Obscure Brewery.

Additional shows next month include Miss Freddye on Aug. 3 and The Luke Weltz Band on Aug. 17.

Delmont Recreation Board hosts Family Fun Night

The Delmont Recreation Board will host another “Family Fun Night” beginning at 5 p.m., July 17 at Newhouse Park.

The evening will begin with live music by the Phisbins, with food from the Earth Wheel & Fire food truck, refreshments from Yellow Bridge and White Valley Distillery and Kona Ice.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and relax during the music, which will be followed at dusk by a showing of the 1984 comedy classic “Ghostbusters.” The park’s concession stand will also be open with popcorn, drinks and candy.

Newhouse Park is on Newhouse Park Road, off of Stotler Drive in Delmont.

Hills Church pastor to host ‘Send Your Child’ community meeting

Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ (Hill’s Church) will host an Aug. 4 community meeting at 7 p.m., called “Send Your Child,” for parents or grandparents preparing to send a child back to college, back to school in the fall, or into the working world.

The Rev. Joseph Hedden, parent of two teens, will facilitate the discussion that touches on ways to prepare both your child and yourself for those next steps.

Hedden will provide tips to help manage anxieties and concerns.

The Delmont Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. July 26 at the community room in the Delmont Public Library, 75 School St.
