‘On the Move’ in the Murrysville area for the week of April 22, 2021

Murrysville officials declared April 21, 2021, as “Coach Botta Day” in honor of Franklin Regional football coach Greg Botta, who is retiring after 27 years with the team.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to work and live in this community for a long time,” Botta said. “It means the world to me.”
Botta is one of the longest-tenured coaches in the WPIAL, and led the Panthers to the WPIAL playoffs 16 consecutive times from 1994 to 2016. That run included seven conference titles and WPIAL/PIAA titles in 2005.

The April 9 grand opening of the GetGo fuel station and convenience store in Murrysville also included a $5,000 donation from GetGo to the Franklin Regional Panther Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with the school district, which raises money to provide educational opportunities and innovative programming for FR students.

Michael Haley, a 2017 Franklin Regional graduate, has been named among 10 Emerson Scholars at Ashland University’s Dauch College of Business and Economics.
Haley is a supply chain management and business management major from Murrysville.

Collin Hall of Delmont was named to the fall 2020 dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractics in Davenport, Iowa.

Michael Kemerer of Murrysville was named to the 2020-‘21 winter academic All Big Ten team, one of more than 70 University of Iowa athletes to make the team.
Kemerer is a member of the university’s wrestling team, and is pursuing a degree in finance.

Franklin Regional senior Joel Peterman recently took first place in the SkillsUSA Region 8 automotive service competition.
Peterman advanced to the state competition last month.

Colin McCamy of Export was one of more than 300 students graduating from Harding University in Searcy, Ark., during a closed ceremony in November 2020.
McCamy earned his bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

Anthony Massetto of Murrysville was among the winners in Shenandoah Conservatory’s 2020-21 Student Soloist Competition.
Winners received a $500 cash prize and a plaque.
Massetto is pursuing a master’s degree in performance at the conservatory, located in Winchester, Va.

Forbes Road Career & Technical Center students Manuel Martin, Alexa Madey and Patrick McGihon were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
Martin was inducted for computer networking and security, Madey for cosmetology and McGihon for automotive technology.

Franklin Regional seniors Nicholas Kravits, Amber Li, Bryan McShea, Max Wang, Evan Yan, and Hannah Yan are among the finalists for National Merit Scholarships.
They are among 15,000 finalists, a group that will be narrowed down to 7,500 scholarship winners.
