Children with an interest in singing, dancing and acting can get a taste of theatrical life when the Alabaster Performing Arts group hosts a one-day “Moana” workshop Feb. 22 in Murrysville.
“The workshop gives kids an experience and a quick one-day lesson on performing,” Duquesne University music school alum and Alabaster Director Mary McCormack said.
The workshop will be at 11 a.m. at Pasqualino’s Restaurant on Route 22.
“It’s geared toward children ages 5 to 12, and the workshop entails acting, singing and dance using the music and story of ‘Moana,’” McCormack said.
Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite character costumes from the movie, and they will put on a 1:30 p.m. show for parents at the end of the workshop. The afternoon will also include a game and craft activity.
“Students are fortified with confidence through acting, singing and dance while sharing their God-given gifts,” McCormack said.
Those who would like to continue can explore more with Alabaster’s spring and summer programs.
“Our youth division holds classes year-round, and we’re rehearsing for a March 25 production of ‘Tangled,’ which will be held at 7 p.m at New Covenant Church in Monroeville,” McCormack said.
In the spring, the group’s youth division will perform selections from “Frozen 2.”
The cost for the one-day workshop is $49, plus the cost of lunch at Pasqualino’s, which is at 4430 William Penn Highway.
