News briefs: Holiday ‘Lite’ Up Night on tap; Thanksgiving dinner canceled

Holiday “Lite” Up Night will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 21 outdoors at the Shaler North Hills Library and the Shaler Area Middle School.

Activities include a parade with Santa and holiday characters along Mt. Royal Boulevard.

Participants will light the holiday tree at the library at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be sold.

There will be ice skating from 4 to 8 p.m. at two separate rinks to maintain social distancing.

The library will be selling hot cocoa and smores.

Church cancels Thanksgiving dinner

Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church has canceled its annual community Thanksgiving dinner because of covid-19 concerns.

Learn about wine on Zoom

The Shaler North Hills Library will host “I’ll Bring the Wine!,” via Zoom, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Spend an evening with local wine educator John Eld and his wife Mary to find out what wine to bring to any event.

Register and receive an email listing which two wines to purchase. Then gather some friends together and spend the evening tasting wines and learning why they pair so well with Thanksgiving dinner.

Registration is limited, and the event is for adults 21 and older.

This free event is sponsored by Shaler North Hills and Hampton Community libraries.

Wreath sales benefit library

Support the Shaler North Hills Library by purchasing a wreath decorated by the Shaler Garden Club members.

Sales are scheduled to begin Nov. 21.

The cost is $35 for a live green wreath from McTighe’s Garden Center.

Harvest Fair open

The Harvest Fair of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church is open for shopping from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays through Dec. 12.

The fair features furniture, housewares, jewelry, crystal, linens, books, holiday decorations, toys and collectibles.

Women’s Business Network to meet

The Cranberry Chapter of the Women’s Business Network meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. in Cranberry United Presbyterian Church, 2662 Rochester Road, Cranberry.
