News briefs: Millvale church reopens; Glenshaw club hosts to-go dinner; library activities on tap

Christ Lutheran Church in Millvale will reopen Oct. 8 for worship.

The 6 p.m. service will be contemporary worship with Pastor Scott Olbert and the SoulSpirit Band. CLC is at 917 Evergreen Ave.

On Oct. 11, traditional service will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Everyone must wear a mask.

Glenshaw club dinner plans

The Glenshaw Century Club is hosting “A Delicious Dinner To Go” from 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Catered by Heavenly Cuisine Custom Catering, pickups will be at Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church, 1520 Butler Plank Road, Glenshaw.

The menu is pork, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, salad, roll and apple pie.

The cost is $15 per meal, payable by cash at pickup.

Include your name, phone number, pick-up time and the number of orders.

Members are asking the customers bring a canned food item to donate.

Library programs

The Shaler North Hills Library on Mt. Royal Boulevard will offer the following programs:

• A Nature Halloween Scare — If You Dare: Your Halloween task is to photograph 10 of the scariest nonhuman things you can find in nature.

There are no restrictions on location where you found/saw them. For each selection, write a scary phrase or find a sinister quote. Then join our Master Naturalist Pat Milliken for a Zoom gathering at 1 p.m. on Oct. 16. to share your finds.

• Poetry Workshops: Workshops are 7 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. The next sessions are Oct. 8 and Nov. 12.

Hosted by Art and Inspiration International, the monthly workshop seeks to connect poets to share works and gain feedback. Sessions are open to anyone 18 and older.

Moderated by Alyssa Sineni, the workshop will be on Zoom. For more information, email infoartandinspiration@gmail.com.

• National Prescription Drug Take Back Day: In conjunction with the Shaler Township Police Department, SNHL will serve as a collection site for any unused, unwanted or expired medications. Drop of your unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. on Oct. 24. There will be a drive-thru drop off.

Liquids must be in the original container. No needles, syringes or lancets.

At the same time, the Elfinwild Lions Club will be collecting used eyeglasses.
